Dark scar tissue after lipo. Will that area lighten back to normal over time?

After 360 lipo of the abdomen I developed a seroma which turned to scar tissue on my left side.I have noticed that area is darker than the rest.Will that area lighten back to normal over time?

Thanks for your inquiry, ask your surgeon about using a product with hydroquinione.  It can lighten color, but overall time can be your friend and ally, best of luck.

This can be improved with a combination of lasers, Aerolase, microneedling/prp, skin lightening, peels, and skin care. Sun protection is essential. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a scarring expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Thank you for your question. Without seeing a picture can not comment. It may be because of underlying chronic inflammation. Please talk to your PS for evaluation and possible skin lightening treatments

I would use products with a bleaching cream, i.e.-- hydroquinone. this will take time, so be patient and apply the cream twice a day. Dr. Leake

Certainly there are a lot of interventional procedures that can be done (Chemical peels, micro needling, Etc.) to lighten the dark area where the seroma once was. However, if you can be patient and give it a few months, it will likely fade on its own. Make sure to use sunscreen SPF 30 or better with any sun exposure. Best of luck!Windell Davis Boutte', M.D.
