I'm unaware of any clinics that specifically remove visceral fat. Diet and exercise, or bariatric procedures, need to weight loss and will decrease the size of visceral fat. I would consider speak with your primary care doctor regarding your best options. You may consider a consultation with a bariatric surgeon.
Hi, Thank you for your post. I am not aware of any places doing this kind of procedure. It sounds like a bariatric specialist would be the best option for you. With the appropriate diet and exercise visceral fat usually improves.
Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure, rather it is for sculpting and defining and removing problem areas that cannot be removed with weight loss and diet / exercise alone. For best results, it is recommended to be at your ideal or stable weight before getting a sculpting liposuction procedure. With skin laxity, a tummy tuck or lifting procedure could be performed at the same time. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a bariatric doctor or dietitian. Best, Dr. Emer
Intra-abdominal fat is never removed for cosmetic/aesthetic purposes. This can only be lost through diet and exercise (barring some pathological reason necessitating laparotomy). As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).
I am not aware of any centers doing this procedure. The risk of complications make it an unattractive option. Weight loss with or without surgery is the safer way of improving this situation.
It really isn't possible to surgically remove meaningful amounts of visceral fat surgically. Much of the visceral fat is actually in the tissue of the liver and sometimes the heart muscle. Some of it is in what is called the mesentery which is the structure that carries the blood supply to the intestines and other organs. There is a discreet structure called the omentum that gets very fatty that I guess could be removed but it would not account for more than maybe 10 - 20% of the visceral fat.The treatment for visceral fat is weight loss. Patients with a lot of visceral fat are at increased risk for many health issues and they also have a lot of discomfort (sort of like being pregnant). Many, many people are helped a lot with bariatric surgery these days. Almost all procedures are done with the scope and patients often go home the day of surgery or the next day. This is such a valuable tool for sustained weight loss. Also, some of the bariatric procedures really help reverse diabetes even before there is much weight loss.
The short answer is no. But with bariatric surgery and appropriate diet and exercise it does go away as a result of weight loss..
No one removes intra abdominal fat for cosmetic reasons. Some cancer operations remove some intra abdominal fat. This is a difficult area to remove fat and there are many complications that are possible. My Best, Dr Commona
Under normal circumstances I have my patients wear a garment for 3-6 weeks. In this instance, you really need to be followed by a surgeon who can properly advise you. He may not want you to wear a garment.
