Do I continue wearing compression garment after liposuction burn? (Photo)

Question

I am 2 weeks post op. I got liposuction in a different country. I have 3 burns 1 on the left abdomen, and 2 left and right lower back.My Doctor gave me a cream Platsul A to put on the burn. She also told me to wear a loose compression garment with very little compression to avoid irritating the burn however I think it's irritating the wound and prematurely peeling. Please help me. What do I do? should I avoid wearing the garment till the burn start to harden or scab? It's currently very soft.

Hi, Thank you for your post. I would recommend that you follow up with your plastic surgeon about the compression garment and burn treatment. Usually lymphatic massage helps quite a bit with swelling and improving the overall results from the liposuction.

I recommend following up with your Doctor about your compression garment and their recommendations. My patients wear customized compression after liposuction. Burns need hyperbaric oxygen and silicone gel with growth factors to promote healing. I also recommend lymphatic massage to help reduce any swelling, which may last 3-6 months after your procedure. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. Under normal circumstances I have my patients wear a garment for 3-6 weeks. In this instance, you really need to be followed by a surgeon who can properly advise you. He may not want you to wear a garment.

I believe the majority of the benefit to your result form the compression has passed. You need to establish a relationship with a physician in your area to manage the burn. The skin loosening and following off is part of the process and should not be blocked. As you clearly understand now, undergoing surgeries geographically remote form your operative surgeon does not allow you to have access to his personal attention and support when complications occur.
