Should I get a chin implant or sliding genioplasty? (Photo)

I’ve been doing some research and I’m wondering which one would be better for me. I have an under developed chin and do not want jaw surgery because I’ve already had braces 10 years ago. I do have problems with snoring and my mouth stays open with sleeping so I’m leaning more towards a genioplasty. I also have a deep mental crease and from what I’ve seen an implant won’t help. Obviously I need to make a consultation but a pre-opinion is always helpful.

A chin implant can be placed under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure which takes 30 minutes, and is much less invasive. A sliding genioplasty is performed under general anesthesia in a hospital setting with an overnight stay  and is much more invasive. A sliding genioplasty is usually performed when the teeth are significantly out of alignment.

With your young age and degree of chin deficiency, a sliding genioplasty would be a better choice over an implant. The depth of your labiomental fold is always problematic but there are better strategies with a sliding genbiopplasty for some improvement in it than with an implant.

In your case, a genioplasty is the choice. However, the surgeon has to consider the depth of the 'fold' between the lip and chin; and ensure it is well supported or it will not look natural and balanced. The genioplasty also 'pulls' the tongue forward to some degree; so it may assist the snoring/breathing. An implant does not improve tongue position.
