I don't like the width of the lower half of my nose, am I candidate for alarplasty? Are there certain methods that would reduce the risk of bad scarring. Being that I am African American, and have oily skin, does that increase the chances of keloids? Do you have any referrals for this procedure on an African American, in the state of Texas? Thanks!
Answer: Alarplasty candidate If you would like to narrow the base of your nose (nostril width), then alar pasty is an option for you. Be sure to discuss with your own surgeon about how this applies to you, and whether they have any special concerns in your case.

Answer: alar plasty for narrowing wide nostrils And alar plasty will only narrow wide nostrils. It will not narrow the lower half of the nose. narrow the lower half of the nose requires osteotomies placed in the nasal bones and a tip rhinoplasty. Thick skin will be a significant impediment to seeing a very refined result in the nose

Answer: Alarplasty Rhinoplasty to address the size and shape of your nose should help you address your concerns. You have to understand that there is no such thing as the “perfect” nose. You should seek out someone with experience in ethnic rhinoplasty as well as a scarring expert to discuss your risk of keloids. As rhinoplasty surgeons, we are able to improve the structure and function of the nose to address specific issues you have with how your nose looks and and how well you can breathe. Perfect symmetry does not exist in nature. Attempts to improve the symmetry of your nose should be aimed at achieving an improvement in your asymmetry to the point where it is no longer very noticeable. If you look carefully enough, you will always be able to find imperfections. The goal is a normal looking nose that is in harmony with the rest of your anatomy.

Answer: Reducing the size of your nose an alarplasty is a way to reduce the flare/size of your nostril. It only affect the nostril and not the lower half of your nose. From the picture, it is hard to see what your nose looks like. It may need more than just an alarplatsy. However, an alarplasty can certainly be done with minimal risk of keloid with proper surgical technique and post operative care.
