Hello! I’ve been thinking for a while now that I want to improve the shape of my breasts which surely are tuberous and very small. I’m not bothered by their size, but the shape in normal condition is what’s bothering me. I say “normal conditions” because when I’m cold or aroused, the areola shrinks a lot and the breasts look more round. Is an areola reduction surgery going to improve the appearance of my breasts? Also, will it continue to shrink afterwards in the above mentioned conditions?
Answer: Areola reduction From your photos it appears you are a candidate for areola reduction. It will conservatively impact the shape of your breasts. Your nipples will still respond to cold and arousal, but the tissue may contract less than it currently does. See a board certified plastic surgeon near you to learn more.

Answer: Tuberous breasts Hello and thank you for your question! Enlarged areolas are one trait of tuberous breasts. Other traits include underdevelopment of the inner/lower portions of the breast, a high breast fold and a "herniation" or "pushing through" of the breast tissues centrally through the areolar tissues, all leading to an overall narrow and "tubular" breast. Addressing only the issue of large areolar diameter through an areolar reduction will not change the overall shape of the breasts. Normally, surgeons will recommend addition of implants or fat transfer along with some extra "work" to lower the breast fold, expand the underdeveloped portions of the breast as well as reducing size of the areola which will all work in harmony to give you a better overall shape and contour to the breasts. The next best step in my opinion is an in-person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to perform an exam and review the options that may work best for you!

Answer: Tuberous breasts Dear Compassionate767700, tuberous breasts are not simply small or underdeveloped breasts. The appearance of the breast can range from mild to severe, and typical traits include: enlarged, puffy areola, rather wide spacing between the breasts, very little breast tissue, sagging, higher than normal inferior breast fold, and narrow base at the chest wall. The type of surgery best for you will depend on the severity of your condition. My preferred technique for tuberous breast correction involves a multistep procedure where the breast tissue is released in a radial pattern to prevent herniation into the areola and placement of a custom implant size is in the breast to allow appropriate expansion of the breast in the restricted dimensions. This can often be done in a single procedure but sometimes may require two surgeries. That said, it is best that you visit a board-certified plastic surgeon for an in person examination. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Areola reduction Areola reduction me, give it a slight tightening to the skin envelope, potentially improving the shape the way you describe. This procedure has to also flatten the breast just slightly reducing nipple projection a little bit. The areolas will still be reactive, but probably less so after an areola reduction.. best, Mats Hagstrom, MD

Answer: Breast augmentation Hello, good afternoon. If your breasts improve with breast augmentation and areola reduction surgery, in this way we can correct the tuberosity that is in your mother's lower pole, place an implant to give it greater roundness and reduce the size of the areola. It is normal for you to feel when you are cold that the areola that is going to remain shrinks because this is a stimulus that produces contraction of the smooth muscles of the areola.
