Will insurance cover breast augmentation if my tuberous breasts were caused genetic adrenal condition?

I agree with the other surgeons that insurances mostly cover cancer reconstruction and breast reduction. However, working closely with a board certified plastic surgeon with good documentation of your medical conditions, there is a small chance insurance could cover part of the procedure.Best wishes, Dr. ALDO :)

Typically, insurance only covers breast surgery in two circumstances: breast reduction and breast cancer. That being said, your case is not typical. It may be reasonable to submit a request to your carrier, but I wouldn't want to get your hopes up.

We see a number of patients in our practice with tuberous breasts who do not have congenital adrenal hyperplasia. I do not believe your insurance company will cover breast augmentation unless you can show that the procedure is medically necessary.

Good question and difficult to answer without an in person consultation.  In general, most of the time, tuberous breasts breast asymmetry, etc, are not covered by insurance.  I have found this type of thing to be a pretty tough sell to third party payers.  A predetermination will have to be done.  I recommend that you consult with an experienced board certified plastic surgeon with experience in breast reconstruction.

Without an examination, it is hard to say whether you may have hope for some insurance help.  They are very picky when it comes to the breasts, and they even fight breast reconstruction after cancer at times.  The best thing to do is to go for a consultation with a few board certified plastic surgeons and see what they recommend.  I hope this helps.

Hi. This is a common question. While your tuberous breasts are considered a congenitally caused condition they do not affect your overall health or ability to stay healthy. Insurance companies in general cover conditions that cause health concerns. While there is always exceptions to the rule based on your particular carrier, I have not seen any companies pay for cosmetic breast enhancements. Best

Your insurance is a contract between you and your insurance carrier.  You are able to review the terms of coverage, while we, as surgeons are not.  Therefore, you should address your question to your carrier.  As a rule, the general understanding is that conditions that will provide improvement in symptoms may be covered, as long as they are "medically" needed.  If you can prove a medical need, you may be able to get coverage.  Hope this is helpful.
