Where can I find a tuberous breast specialist?

This is a difficult question to answer, as there is so much variability.  As a resident in training, and as a medical student on rotations and various hospitals, I have worked with relatively unknown surgeons who are true Masters. As well, with world-famous surgeons who are much better at promoting their name and publishing articles than they are at surgical technique.  Any plastic surgeon with a busy practice will treat a fair number of tuberous breast conditions over the years.  Much would depend upon the severity of your case.  I would make several consultations with high-volume plastic surgeons in your area, ask around, asked to see pictures, ask to speak with prior patients, etc.  See who you have the best connection with.Best of luck!

Far more important than the technique is the skill and experience of your plastic surgeon. Choose your surgeon rather than the technique and let them explain why one technique may be better than another.  See the below link on some suggestions on finding the most qualified Plastic Surgeon for a Breast Augmentation.  Always insist on a board certified plastic surgeon.

Thank you for your question.  It is true that surgical correction of a tuberous breast is slightly more complicated than a routine breast augmentation due to the constricted nature of a tuberous breast.  The severity of a tuberous breast will also influence the 'difficulty' of your surgical correction, but that is not to say that it is impossible to achieve a natural cosmetic result in the end.  It would be important for you to seek out a board certified plastic surgeon who is well-experienced in surgical corrections of tuberous breasts.  At the time of your consultation, your candidacy will be best determined and it will be critical to discuss with your surgeon what a 'natural' result means to you.  These conversations between patient and surgeon are essential as they will impact the surgical plan and ultimately your cosmetic result.  One important consideration is that most patients with tuberous breasts will be limited with how large they can go with implant size.  It is important that the surgical correction be carefully planned out and sometimes this will require a multi-staged surgical approach.I hope you find this helpful and I wish you all of the best.

What are the issues that are concerning you. Shape of breast can be altered with lifting, reducing or augmenting techniques. Sometimes best results may require a two stage procedure. First where shape is addressed the second where volume is addressed. A recent symposium in New York City focused on Breast augmentation/Lift. The tuberous breast was one of the topics that was introduced. Dr. David Hidalgo showed some acceptable results. Personally I have 30 years of experience with a large number of tuberous breasts that I have had the trust to operate on and improve. Sometimes different shaped breast implants can be used to help equalize breasts. good luck...

Smeltering.   While you are wise to research the experience and talent of your pl;attic surgeon, you live in a city with numerous qualified experts willing and able to deal with your issue.  Usually tuberous breasts can be addressed with a modified breast augmentation procedure, releasing constricting tissue, usually in the lower pole of the breasts and then placing wider based implants.  Sometimes the nipple areolar complex needs to be addressed separately, especially if there is herniation of tissue. Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. Good luck!

best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation.  Tuberous breasts can be challenging to treat, but if good technique is used, you can have a natural looking breast for your final result.    Make sure you
specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have
had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their
results.   The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are
comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified
board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person.

 There are many very talented PS in the US. You are fortunate in living in NYC where there is an availability of excellent, talented PSs. Do your  homework,  consult with a number of PS and view their photos. Do not  rush the process since making the correct decision is  very important. You will discover that a number of PS  names will be repeated, and  from that list you will be able to make a decision.

You are correct in searching for a board certified plastic surgeon who has a tremendous amount of experience with the correction of breast and chest wall deformities. The decisions made between the patient and the surgeon before surgery will have a very long lasting impact on how “normal” and “natural” your breasts will look for years to come. I suggest selecting a plastic surgeon that specializes in breast augmentation and especially chest wall and breast deformities.
