Does Lipo fluid stain your clothing or sheet?

The drainage after liposuction is blood tinged and may stain bedding or furniture.   We send patients home with some material to protect from drainage.  But it's a good idea to place old towels around to prevent any drainage that happens to get past the bandages.  Best of luck.

It may, so old towels or another type of covering is recommended. I recommend following up with your Doctor about after care recommendations. I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. The fluid is dilute blood.  The washing machine generally will take it out of clothes, sheets and towels. You wouldn’t want it soaking into a mattress, comforter or cushion, so put down some sort of waterproof barrier before sitting in the car, on the couch, or in bed. Pet pee pads are great, but if you are having multiple body parts done, you get more coverage using a shower curtain or tarp in beach towels works well. Some patients get actual bleeding from the incisions which can be a darker stain. If there is a spot on something you can’t throw in the washer, hydrogen peroxide can take it out, especially if it is still wet. 

 Since we normally inject fluid into the fat prior to liposuction, it is quite normal to have fluid leak from the small incisions over the next 24 to 48 hours after surgery. For this reason, I ask my patients to place old towels over their sheets in their beds to absorb the fluid and minimize dampness to the sheets.  Discuss your postop instructions with your plastic surgeon. The fluid that comes out of the incisions may stain your clothing and sheets. Generally, patents are sent home with a protective covering over the incision and are instructed to be replaced for a few weeks. This will prevent leakage and infection. 

Occasionally liposuction fluid if in excess can saturate sheets and bedding so we recommend a mattress protector or cover especially for the first few days.  Your doctor will guide you on the appropriate garments to wear postoperatively.

The fluid can generally be removed from clothes sheets, and towels through the washing machine. However, you do not want it to soak into a mattress, sofa, rugs, or cushions. Therefore, we do recommend covering any area that you will laying down, sitting, or walking. 

Yes it can.  Usually the washing machine can take care of this.  Hydrogen peroxide is a good option too for white colored sheets, for example.
