We wrap the patients for the first 24 hours and then remove all dressings. Wraps will not help, especially if you have drains. They can affect the way the skin heals, in a negative way.
Compression is helpful after explant to manage swelling and prevent seroma formation. I encourage you to speak with your surgeon regarding your questions about compression as opinions can vary. You may be advised to use it after your drains are removed.
Because your surgeon used drains to close off the dead space and reduce fluid accumulation, a wrap is somewhat redundant. Discuss with your surgeon.
Often, these types of decisions are based on individual plastic surgeon's preference. Therefore, best to address your question directly to your plastic surgeon; ask for his/her rationale. In my practice, I also do not use "wraps"; I do use somewhat compressive dressings/bra along with drains after breast implant removal surgery. Best wishes.
This is a question of doctor preference and routine. I would normally use a compressive garment after an explantation (and drains) but, between a wrap and no drains, or no wrap and two drains, I would endorse the second approach. You should of course remain in contact with your own plastic surgeon.I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr. Alan EnglerMember of #RealSelf100@RealSelf
