I have bump and rash post Xeomin the next day (delayed). Any suggestions? (photos)

Question

I tried 20 units of Xeomin for my glabellar lines, I woke up the following day with a bump (hard to see) and some redness. It did not happen immediately or even for that day. I can only assume the area did not like being injected and this was a slight reaction. I put antibiotic ointment on the bump and it went away slowly within a few days. Do you think this is a physical reaction rather than allergic? I am going to try 10 units of another brand to see what happens but I am nervous!

Thank you for your picture.  If you had a raised area that responded to antibiotic ointment then you probably had a mild infection.  This probably has less to due with XEOMIN®  and more to due with lack of sterile technique.

It appears you are having an inflammatory reaction to the injections and this should resolve with time..

The bump may be from a bruise or small bleed under the skin.  The redness may be from the prep solution, rubbing the bump or even a contact dermatitis to the topical antibiotic you used. It does not sound like an allergic reaction to the Xeomin.  Please note that 10 units of another product is not necessarily half of what you received.

Congratulations on your recent Xeomin treatment.  I suspect that the bump or redness that you experienced was a local reaction to the injection.   So, more of a physical reaction (just from the needle insertion) and not an allergic reaction...

The bump sounds like it might be some swelling from the injection (bleeding to a certain degree within the muscle - which is the correct location for the injection) and then secondary redness.  I'm not sure that antibiotic ointment was necessary or indicated but I'm glad if you're better.You should speak with your PS and discuss what happened, as well as options to make it less likely to occur in the future.I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr. Alan EnglerMember of #RealSelf100
