I have super swollen lips after 1 syringe of Juvederm Vollure, is this normal? (Photo)

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs and congratulations on your lip augmentation!  Swelling after filler placement into the lips is quite common due to the thin nature of the tissues.  This swelling, and your results, will steadily improve over the next 10-14 days.  It often takes up to 2 weeks for fillers to soften and the tissues to appear more natural.  In the meantime try reducing the swelling by using cold compresses to your lips and elevating your head at night with a couple of extra pillows behind your back.  You may want to also consider using Arnica Montana and bromelain as supplements.  Hang in there!

Dear Lady_wood007,Thank you for your question and photos. I am sorry you are having some concerns with your Juvaderm injections. Swelling after injections is normal and can last for up to two weeks. The swelling may be worse the day after the injection due to laying flat during sleep.I would recommend using ice and keeping head elevated as much as possible. Arnica may help as well. If the swelling does not subside after two weeks, I would recommend meeting with the original injector to have the fillers dissolved. Best regards,Nima Shemirani

Swelling after lip fillers is common. There are several ways to reduce swelling: sleeping with head up, ice packs, arnica etc. I recommend no doing anything and you will be surprised how quickly the swelling with start subsiding. Its not very comfortable to put ice packs on lips or even arnica. 
Give it few days and you will see the final result. 

Yes, there can be some swelling after lip injections which can last 1-2 weeks. You can apply firm pressure between two fingers on the lips for a few days, for 5 mins a time, in order to help decrease swelling. If you're unhappy with your final results you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Best, Dr. Emer

Thank you for your question and photos. Unfortunately, swelling post-lip fillers is very common, and expected. After the first night's sleep, swelling increases due to the flat-laying position, and you'll wake up more swollen than immediately after the procedure. Ice packs and over-the-counter antihistamines can help decrease swelling. In addition, Arnica may add some relief. It takes about 2 weeks for all the swelling to subside.

Thank you for your question. It is too early at 1-day post-treatment to determine what your final results will be as it takes up to 2 weeks for all swelling to resolve. You can apply cold compresses to your lips to help reduce any swelling and bruising. It is also advisable to avoid any NSAID’s such as ibuprofen as they tend to thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising and swelling. I recommend having a follow in 2 weeks with your injector for an evaluation. Best of Luck!

Swelling and bruising are common after lip injections and can persist up to two weeks.  You can apply ice intermittently to the area and keep your head elevated for the first few days to help minimize the swelling.  Some patients are feel the supplement bromelain is beneficial.

Thank you for your question. Yes, swelling is completely normal one day post injection. You can try icing, Arnica, and Bromelain. Also, be sure to avoid anything to cause more swelling, such as alcohol. Swelling can last 1-2 weeks. If you are still not pleased with your final results, and feel they are too big, you can always reverse the injections with hyaluronidase. Please consult with an expert injector. Good luck!
