Does Voluma cause your body to create collagen?

Question

Have heard conflicting information from different doctors saying Voluma injections do cause your body to create collagen and others saying it does not. Im confused will it or will it not? Thank you!

Voluma does not really cause much increase in collagen formation since it is slowly absorbed. However, with the "trauma" of placing the Voluma, a tiny about is increased. Sculptra is a filler that does stimulate the production of collagen, and the new collagen does grow into this filler and replaces it.

Voluma, along with other HA fillers are designed to add volume in order to enhance contours or replace depleted areas.  It is not designed to produce collagen.  I encourage you to visit with an experienced injector near you to discuss your concerns and learn more.

Hello, I hope your day is going well. I recommend you contact a reputable cosmetic practice to have a full consultation. Voluma is designed to temporarily add volume to the facial wrinkles for a smoother appearance to the face. Voluma is not indicated to stimulate collagen growth from the product itself.  When dermal fillers are placed; the injection itself may cause some slight inflammation. The inflammation can result in some collagen growth left behind. I hope this helps. Have a wonderful day.

It was initially thought that only certain products like Sculptra and Radiesse stimulated collagen production. However, many of us noticed that when reinfecting the same area we rarely had to inject the same amount as the first to get the same result. Subsequently, we now have good evidence that hyaluronic acid fillers also stimulate new collagen. This is especially true if you inject in an area that is stimulated to make collagen from surgery, peel, laser, microneedling, or tretinooin (Retin-A) use. Many injectors have just not kept up with current knowledge.
