I had a tummy tuck with muscle repair. I'm 6 weeks po and noticed today this black area in my belly button. Do I have to be concerned? I'm super nervous.
Answer: Black dot in bellybutton. Difficult to say without a physical exam. It could be a stitch coming to a head, it could be a small scab beneath the skin surface or tiny blood collection, etc. Only way to say is to get examined by your plastic surgeon in person.Best of luck! Answer: Call Your Surgeon I would be very upset if one of my patients was contacting Realself to get answers about a possible post-operative complication. All patients should feel free to contact their operating surgeon, and expect to be talked to and seen in a timely fashion. Realself should not be the platform for patients to get opinions or advice about recent surgery. I suggest you call your surgeon and schedule another follow-up appointment. I'm sure they will be glad to help you.

Answer: Umbilical skin discoloration Thanks for the question and the photos. A physical exam is crucial to determine what the dot may be. Several things that come to mind are ; scab, suture, blood clot under the skin, early tissue loss (very small though). You should follow up with your Plastic Surgeon so they may evaluate what it is. Best of luck. Dr T

Answer: What is black dot? It is difficult to tell what the black dot is so one can only guess without seeing you in person. Usually, blackish discoloration around the belly button represents either tissue that has struggled to heal or has an overlying dried blood clot. Only your plastic surgeon will be able to tell by seeing you in the office. Best of luck.
