It would be extremely unlikely that someone would have any significant hair loss from their scalp after a tummy tuck and liposuction. However, everyone's body reacts to the stress of surgery and the medications differently so that virtually any potential reaction is possible. The risk of hair loss is very small and the odds are very much in your favor to not have hair loss (from your scalp). There would be a somewhat higher risk of hair loss from the pubic area after tummy tuck and abdominal liposuction as that area may be to some extent traumatized and/or modified during the procedure. Usually any hair loss after surgery is temporary and the hair will regrow once the follicles recycle. Seek consultation with a real plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery experienced in these procedures to assure the best possible results with the lowest risk of complications.
A tummy tuck and liposuction, or other body contouring cosmetic surgical procedure, doesn’t cause the hair to fall out. Sudden hair loss on its own tends to occur as a result of an extremely stressful situation. While surgery may be a stressful situation, it would be extremely unusual if this were to happen.
Hair falling out after your surgery would be extremely unusual but possible.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA
Interesting question. It is definitely possible for hair to fall out after any kind of stress including surgery. The cause of this type of alopecia is unknown. In fact the causes for most alopecia is unknown but stress probably has a significant role. I have had only one case in over twenty five years of stress induced alopecia (after breast augmentation) so it's pretty rare. It this particular patient it got very thin and did not fall out in clumps or leave her with bald patches. The hair will regrow but can take a good 3-6 months to get back to normal. If you are particularly worried you could pre-treat yourself with Rogaine which should help to stabilize your hair.
Thank you for your question. You do not have to worry about your hair falling out after your surgery. Best of Luck!
Your hair should not fall out after a tummy tuck procedure, There is a very rare condition called telogen effluvium where patients can have transient hair loss after a stressful situation including surgery. It is such an uncommon occurrence that it should not dissuade you from undergoing the procedure. Seek a consultation from a board certified plastic surgeon. Best wishes to you!.
That would be very strange! While stress can cause hair loss rarely I doubt that an abdominoplasty could do that. Now, if you have hair on you abdomen, then a bunch of that will get cut away;)Best of Luck!
Dear Patient: bieng that you are 11 months out, the best approach would be to surgically explore the wound under adequate anaesthesia to determine the cause of this persistent problem. Hope this helps!
Thanks for your inquiry and sorry for your struggles. Seromas unfortunately do occur. You appear to have an attentive surgeon that is trying to find solutions to your problem, please continue to be seeing him/her, good luck.
Based on your photos, I do not see any reason why you would benefit more from an umbilical float versus a standard abdominoplasty. In fact, I believe you would get a much better result from a standard abdominoplasty and would not recommend an umbilical float for you.About the only time I would ...
