I had a breast lift yesterday and today I’m super swollen. It’s starting to look like a uni-boob. Is this normal?

Dear sandygirl88,swelling can be expected so early after the surgery but I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. Congratulations for your operation. 24 hours after surgery swelling is normal and expected. Unless the swelling happened suddenly, asymmetrically and associated with a significant degree of pain, I would not be excessively concerned. However every practice should have some sort of help line for patients in case of concerns and therefore I would advice you to contact them and make them aware.At least they will be informed.Best of luckAndrea Marando MDCertified, European Board of Plastic Surgery  Member, Am. Post-operative swelling is normal and takes time to subside. Make sure you are following your surgeon’s post-operative care instructions to ensure proper healing. If you are concerned about the amount of swelling, it is best to schedule an appointment with your doctor to discuss your trepidations.

It is very common to have swelling postoperatively but if you have concerns you need to let your surgeon know and you should be seen immediately.  I am sure your surgeon would like to check on you to make sure everything is progressing as expected.

If you have swelling you need to be seen by your PS. It is usual for a lot of swelling initially and skin tightening can lead to the implants initially appearing closer together but only your PS will know what has been done and whether the swelling is to be expected. 

If you are concerned call your doctor. It’s as simple as that. It is their job to make sure things are fine. I see all my patients the first day after surgery to check on things like this. I recommend you call them.
