Do I have to walk hunched over after a tummy tuck?

Thanks for your question.  I would recommend discussing this issue with your PS since they know exactly the procedure performed, the tightness of the wound closure, etc.  In my practice the majority of patients are walking normally within 5-7 days of the operation but there is variability.

Congrats on your surgery.  I would strongly recommend following your surgeon's post-op instructions.  They will know how much skin was resected and how tight the closure is.  Not following the instruction can jeopardize the tissue repair and can even cause the incision to break down.

Not really, is recommended for the first 2 to 3 days after the surgery. After that if the pressure you feel standing straight is not much you may walk as usual, it won't compromise your results.

Thank you for your question. This is something that is best to ask your surgeon about. Each surgeon has different recommendations and reasons for them. I tell my patients that they can straighten up as long as they don't feel significant tightness or tension when doing so. If they try to straighten up and it feels very tight I ask them to hunch for a few days and to slowly straighten their posture. Good luck.

Congratulations on having undergone the tummy tuck surgery. I would strongly recommend that you follow your plastic surgeon's instructions;  following online consultants' advice regarding postoperative care instructions is really not a good idea. Best wishes.

Hi, adylou.  Congratulations on your recent surgery.  Most patients need to walk hunched over for 7-10 days as they are very tight after the surgery.  Depending on how tight some one is, it would take more or less time for them to stand straight up.  Your body will let you know.  Good luck with your recovery.
