I am considering rhinoplasty to achieve a nose that better fits my facial features and looks as natural as possible. My current concerns include the length of my nose and some asymmetry. I have read online that rhinoplasty can help with facial asymmetry. Is this true? Could you please explain what specific rhinoplasty procedure might be required to address these issues and provide a more harmonious look for my face?

Hello from Istanbul, thanks for your question. When considering the overall length of your nose in relation to your face, the tip appears extra long and droopy. Shortening the nasal tip cartilages can create a more natural and aesthetically pleasing look. Smoothing the nasal bridge and slightly raising the radix can provide a straighter side profile. Additionally, narrowing the nasal bones with osteotomies and reducing the alar width through alarplasty can enhance the front view of your nose. All these procedures aim to maintain balance and proportion, achieving a natural appearance without overly Westernizing the features.

Ethnic rhinoplasty considers all these aspects to create aesthetic noses while preserving ethnic characteristics. I perform hundreds of these surgeries every year in my practice. Make sure to find a surgeon whose vision aligns with yours for best results. Hope this helps! Best of luck.

The ideal nasal shape will greatly depend on your personal aesthetic. At least to my eye, I do think your nose will look more balanced with a slight augmentation to your radix (area of the bridge between the eyes), which will create a smoother appearance to your dorsum and bridge. The tip of your nose may be slightly long and ptotic, and may benefit from some rotation (lifting). Other changes could also be made, but again will depend on your specific aesthetic goals and ideals.

African american rhinoplasty typically involves 4 different components. Some patients need them all, some only one or two. Here are the 4 components.
1.  Improvement of the bridge height with an implant (In your case you actually have a small hump which needs to be removed, so it is the opposite of what I normally see in most of my African American patients.
2. Narrowing of the wide upper nose (bony part) with osteotomies.
3. Narrowing of the tip (Tip-plasty)
4. Narrowing of the nostrils (Alarplasty)

Your nose is too wide and the nasal columella angle is less than 90 degrees.  The nose needs to be shortened, the tip needs to be rotated upward and refined and the width of the nose needs to be reduced.
