Hi, thanks for posting and I will try to interpret the question and answer it. The platysma muscle is actually a muscle sheet that separates in the midline as we age forming these two bands aka "turkey neck" or the "elevens." A platysmaplasty is performed as part of a neck lift. It involves seeing these two muscle bands back together so they are no longer hanging. It would be analogous to lacing a shoe and then pulling the laces tight. Additionally, the platysmaplasty muscle bands can be "back cut" at the bottom in a way to relieve the tension akin to cutting a bowstring. Your surgeon may be referring to this cut muscle "reattaching" and appearing again. Also the tightened muscle can "loosen up" just as a shoelace can loosen after wearing the shoe all day. I like to use long lasting or permanent sutures to maintain long lasting results. Back cutting the muscle I do on occasion. Every patient will continue to age at different paces and every surgeon has developed his own techniques to get the best platysmaplasty results. Hope this explanation helps.
If it is your neck that is hanging, it is best to get a face lift with SMAS or a Z-lift. The key of this type of lift is to attach the platysma fibers to the periosteum of the mastoid process, the little bump behind your ear. Lifting the platysma which is one of the major parts of the SMAS and then fixating it with permanent sutures allows for a more lasting correction of platysmal bands then a simple platysmaplasty. It would help to see your photos and for you to be evaluated by a board certified plastic surgeon.
neck bands or platysmal bands are muscle bands that are very visible and distressing for the patients.platysma muscle is a wide muscle and cover most of the neck.like a lot muscles involved the facial surgery, they are treated adequately but their activity may return at different degree.we, facial surgeon specialist still asking ourself what is the best method to treat them: cut them, paralyse them with botox or suture them ( platysmaplasty).there is no one right answer. it is a combination of those technics. if the patient had a very active muscle band in the neck. it has a higher chance of recurrence even if the adequate treatment has been done.botox can always help to decrease them.to answer your question, yes, what your are experiencing can happen unfortunately
There are many techniques for addressing the neck platysmal muscles in a face lift. Some Plastic Surgeons stitch the two muscles together in the middle of the neck. Some stitch and do partial cuts. Some divide the muscle low in the neck all the way across.I can't imagine the muscle growing back across a gap but a scar tissue band might have formed.
It is not unusual to have a small amount of bleeding at the site of suture removal after a lower facelift. The bleeding should not be extreme however. Normally, it would just be a small amount that can be dabbed dry. If you are having continued bleeding at the site, you should...
The healing process in general can take up to one month for the majority of #swelling to subside, incisions to close, sutures to come out, and for #bruising to completely go away. #Recovery time from a #facelift varies from person to person, but patients can generally expect to be presentable ...
At only 5 weeks out there is some residual swelling. If this is the case then it will continue to fade away. Also since you state you had a neck lift, just from the liposuction part itself you should have some skin contraction which will improve this area too. Skin contraction will start at...
