At only 5 weeks out there is some residual swelling. If this is the case then it will continue to fade away. Also since you state you had a neck lift, just from the liposuction part itself you should have some skin contraction which will improve this area too. Skin contraction will start at about three weeks post op and continue for months. Be patient and you should see this area improving over the next 6 months. Please follow up with your surgeon.
It is very common to have a little residual skin abnormality after surgery. Sometimes swelling, fluid collection or skin texture can contribute to this. This would be the best time to address both issues. During a facelift procedure, an incision is made behind the ear. This is the same incision that is used for corrective otoplasty.
From the limited photos, and angle of the photos provided there is little difference between the two and it appears to be normal. It takes several months to be able to access the final outcome of your facelift.
Tongue sensation comes from the lingual nerve, which is located underneath the outer aspect of the floor of your mouth and deep the mandible. Injuring this nerve during a lower facelift would be very unlikely and difficult. I would contact a local otolaryngologist (ENT surgeon)...
