It is possible to complete a breast lift with local anesthesia, but it would be difficult. The amount of local anesthesia that you can deliver during a single procedure is limited due to the possibility of toxicity. If a surgeon is very skilled at performing intercostal blocks, it could be done. But most patients and surgeons would chose to use at least some deep sedation instead of local anesthesia alone.
Although I would not do this under local, the surface area of the breasts and the amount of skin resection as well as patient tolerance would all be important.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA
I would not recommend having this surgery performed with only local anesthesia. It would be difficult for you as well as the surgeon and has the potential to impact your results. The real question is why you feel local anesthesia is preferable to you over general. I would advise you to meet with a Board Certified plastic surgeon who can talk to you about the risks/benefits of this surgery as well as address your concerns about anesthesia.
I think doing a full lift under local would be highly unpleasant for both you and your surgeon. I would definitely not choose this option.
I have performed this technique under local anaesthetic and sedation on a couple of occasions for patients who were unable to have general anaesthesia. In both scenarios it was a very modest lift. I found that even with anaesthetic blocks that I needed to infiltrate quite a lot of anaesthetic solution locally. I felt this distorted the tissues and made it more difficult to perform the technique.I personally would recommend a general anaesthetic for this procedure unless there is a medical reason that you need to avoid general anaesthetic.
I would always recommend general anesthesia for breast lift. If the surgeon doesn't suggest that, they may not be board certified or have priviliges at an accredited facility.
Technically it is possible but why do you want to do it under local? If it is risk then yes, it can be done. If it is money, not a good choice.
I think that it may be difficult to perform an anchor breast lift under local. You probably will be a lot more comfortable with general.
A straight local anesthesia ( like a breast reduction scar) is a lot under local anesthesia. With sedation on board, yes. A lollipop lift yes as there is less suture liens and much less injections.
Technically yes but I certainly don't recommend it. It's a fairly long procedure and would be a major undertaking to lie there "awake". We do them all using "twilight sleep" anesthesia which is another option.
The surgical procedure should not affect your nipples or your piercings at all. You should be able to use a plastic spacer to replace your metal piercing for the actual procedure. You can switch things back to your normal piercing right after surgery.
A breast lift alone would elevate your nipple position and give you some extra fullness at top. If you are interested in having significant added upper fullness, this would best be achieved with implants in addition to the lift.
Your left side is still healing. Wait until the 6 month point. Based on your photos, if any adjustment is necessary it will be very minor as your nipples are about as close to being identical as you can get. Slight differences in areolar shape are common because in the OR most patients get cold...
