The PRP was dark red. I saw the vials with the blood separated into yellow on top and red on bottom. Yellow was discarded. How can I be certain that I received Platelet Rich Plasma and not just red blood cells without the Plasma or Buffy Coat? I left the plastic surgeons office with what looked like dark tomato paste on my face and was told to keep it on until the following morning. Does any of this sound correct?
Answer: Understanding prp and microneedling PRP is harvested from the patient's own blood and can be applied topically to the skin. Blood is drawn from the patient and separated through a spinning process in a centrifuge. Prp is yellow, however there can be some bleeding/irritation with microneedling which can leave you with redness. If you're concerned with your treatment, I recommend following up with your Dr. I always add prp to microneedling, because it enhances the results. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: PRP Hello and thank you for your question. Platelet Rich Plasma is yellow, when applied to the skin during microneedling when it is mixed with the blood it will appear red on the skin. I would inquire with your provider exactly how PRP was prepared for your procedure. Best to you, Dr Faraz

Answer: PRP Thanks for your question. It is difficult to say because there are several different protocols and machines, but in general, your blood should have been collected in a tube and then spun for a certain amount of time. The upper layer which is typically straw colored is where the PRP is located. Sometimes you will have some of the buffy coat mix in and it can be slightly gelatinous. The blood at the bottom of the tube does not have as much value. I would confirm with your surgeon that this was the correct technique used for you. Good luck!

Answer: PRP with microneedling There are different "PRP protocols" especially when used in combination with microneedling. Typically, there are two steps. First, injecting the PRP (yellow) under the skin. Second, performing microneedling and manually rubbing more PRP (yellow) as a serum during the treatment. Microneedling always causes the skin to bleed a bit, so the PRP (yellow) gets mixed with blood (red) during the session. Other protocols involve doing only step 2. Actual platelet-rich plasma is yellow. Be well.

Answer: PRP with Intensif RF micro needling PRP with micro needling is a great treatment for facial rejuvenation with almost no down time. Our office loves the EndyMed Intensif Radio-frequency (RF) Micro Needling device which adds a burst of up to 25 watts of RF to each dermal entry of the gold tip micro needles. The RF burst significantly contributes to the collagen thickening which follows the treatment. As for which component of the centrifuged tubes was applied to your face during the treatment, that is something you will have to ask your treatment provider. In our office treatments, we dispose of the pasty red cell component, and infiltrate ~1ml of the clear, yellow plasma (the PRP) into each under eye area and rub the remaining PRP into the treated skin immediately in the wake of the Intensif Micro needling. I hope this helps.
