Remicaid is a dangerous treatment since it affects healing. The timing of your surgery and your Remicaid infusion have to be very carefully aligned, and you might have to delay your first post-op Remicaid treatment if you're not fully healed. There are good surgical and non-surgical treatments for this, and you need to find out your options by having a proper examination with a qualified plastic surgeon. Be sure to discuss with your own surgeon about how this applies to you, and whether they have any special concerns in your case.
there is no reason why you cant have a cosmetic procedure being on a TNF blocker. There is no increase risk of healing in those on TNF blockers and major surgeries. Best, Dr. Emer.
We routinely consult with the treating rheumatologist before facial surgery in order to maximize healing potential and minimize any risks. As an TNF alpha blocker, Remicaid has not caused healing problems in the few patients who were on this medication.
There are many different autoimmune diseases, so more information is needed to make a decision about moving forward with a facelift and eyelid surgery. It is best to have clearance from your rheumatologist before embarking upon elective cosmetic surgery
There may be wound healing issues related to autoimmune disease, but this varies with the disease and the medications that you are taking. Disclose all medications to your Plastic Surgeon and coordination with your Internist who is treating the autoimmune disease is valuable.
thomasmichael, I speak only for myself but I tell my patients I am a facial plastic specialist and concentrate all of my thinking into the surgical management of my patients. When It comes to medical issues I require them to get approval from the appropriate medical specialist so in your case I would require you to go to your local MD treating your illness and get their opinion as to the issues to be concerned about and what should or should not be done before and after surgery for a successful result. So talk with your medical MD. Good luck!
It would be important to know the specific autoimmune disease which is being treated by Remicaid. Generally speaking, the TNF blockers, like Remicaid, aren't as problematic for wound healing as steroids and some other prescription medications. Would discuss the medication with your plastic surgeon.
Since you are young and in good shape, I think all you need is some jaw definition, you can achieved that with laser liposuction. Consult a board certified plastic surgeon in your area who has laser experience. I am sure you will be very pleased with the results.
Kybella is the first and only FDA-approved injectable drug that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness due to submental fat - or double chin. As you explore the convenience and cost effectiveness of Kybella, I suggest you consider the Laser-Assisted Weekend Necklift as well....
Facial sculpting and contouring can be created with well-placed fillers (Voluma, Countour, Radiesse, Bellafill) and Sculptra, which would give improvement in facial balance. Fat or implants are alternatives. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a facial sculpting expert. Best, Dr. Emer
