Hi, I'm a 27 y.o female with a healthy BMI (18.6), however I seem genetically predisposed to jowling and fatty deposits around my lower face and chin. As soon as I gain weight, it goes to my lower face! Please advise me on the best measures to address this!!!

Answer: What's the best option to target my jowls at age 27 You do not have jowls. You have a recessive chin since you're mandible bone just did not grow far enough forward. Strongly consider placement of a chin implant to augment your chin forward and give it some width from the frontal profile which will fill in the pre-jowl sulcus. In our practice, placement of a chin implant can be done under local anesthesia, which takes about a half an hour. Most women require a size small chin implant.

Answer: The reality of having a small mandible Facial aesthetics are based on facial bone structure. Individuals who have issues with the lower 1/3 of the face usually have issues with their mandible in regards to pure aesthetics. A small mandible will typically cause a dental occlusion overbite, loss of jawline definition, a premature double chin, premature jowls etc., etc. Well done Liposuction can be helpful but the number of plastic surgeons who mastered this procedure is fairly small. It’s important to recognize that that distribution is not the underlying primary ideology. Any treatment that does not address the primary problem is going to have partial improvement at best. Getting a quality assessment for this part of the face is not easy or straightforward so expect different providers to have a different opinions. It’s not a bad idea to consult with both providers for plastic surgery and oral surgery backgrounds to get the most comprehensive understanding of primary principles affecting the appearance of this area.
