I'm a healthy active 30 year old, I've always been slim/skinny and over the past 5 years seem to have started to carry some excess fat or skin under my neck. Not sure if I have a weak chin, but I do have a large nose. My only concern is that my jawline is hidden, and my side profile shows my neck/chin area to be loose/baggy, especially when looking down.
Answer: Chin liposuction Dear Aguy544924, it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Would chin Liposuction be helpful? There are numerous variables that contributes to how the face looks especially in having a well defined Jawline or the lack there of. probably the biggest influence especially in young people who are not overweight is a facial skeletal imbalance with a mandible that lacks size and forward projection. When that’s the case the insertion of the platysma muscle does not project and the soft tissues drape the neck in a more oblique angle. This type of skeletal imbalance also leads to a lack of jawline definition. Liposuction is quite effective at treating a double chin and lack of jawline definition especially in young people who have a good skin elasticity especially those who are a little overweight or have sufficient amount of fat to remove. With age the lack of skin elasticities or skin laxity combined with laxity of the platysma muscle can create signs of aging and lack of definition. For both of these and neck lift becomes a more definitive and better procedure. Neck lift especially in men can be done from two approaches. A traditional or more typical neck lift a.k.a. face lift mix the incision around the ears and that’s where patients will see potential scars. This can be a little tricky on men because it will move bearded skin close to the ear. And alternative form of a neck lift sometimes called a cervical plasty relies on skin excision under the chin and leaves the scar in that place. That skin tends to be very forgiving for showing visible scars and in men who typically have facial hair it can be a very good option with very forgiving scars. Both procedures typically also include some form of tightening of the platysma muscle. A formal neck lift may be a little extreme on someone who is 30 years old and is probably some thing that would be more appropriate for men over the age of 50. Liposuction works the best and young people with sufficient amount of fat and excellent skin elasticity. I suggest having a few in person consultations for the local board-certified plastic surgeons. Expect to possibly hear different opinions from different providers this is especially true when someone has different potential options and is in an in between stage in regards to what would be the better choice. Liposuction should give at least moderate improvements. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
