I'm thinking about getting chin implant to have a more defined jawline. That being said, I was told that chin implant was pretty painful and I feel like even with the chin implant, I will need to get fillers on the side of the masseter for a more defined look. I am also fearful of the scaring process and I don't want it to look too obvious. What would you recommend ?
Answer: I recommend either a chin implant or fillers- your choice Hello and thank you for your question. A formal evaluation would be needed to determine the best treatment. There are both surgical and non-surgical options to correct this. We can place a chin implant, which is a quick surgical procedure. Many of my patients try to avoid surgery, however, so for those patients, we also offer non-surgical chin augmentation with injectable fillers. Fillers like Radiesse, Voluma, BellaFill, and Sculptra are injected into the area to improve the overall appearance of the lower face and balance the jaw and lip harmony. We use cannula injections to meticulously contour and project the chin, soften the chin along the jawline, and improve the chin crease. Implants are a great option once you are ready for permanent chin enhancement. I suggest getting a consultation with an experienced cosmetic dermatologist and facial sculpting expert, or an aesthetic facial plastic surgeon like Dr. Donald Groves; we are both located right here in Los Angeles. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: It depends on how much correction you need It depends on how much correction you need, and whether you want a permanent or temporary solution. In the long-term, a chin implant will end up being the cheaper option. There are different options for chin implants which can be more or less uncomfortable, however in general it isn't an extremely painful surgery. The scar is hidden under the chin, and I find in the majority of patients heals very nicely.

Answer: Chin implants vs. fillers: what you should know Thank you for your question. Non-surgical augmentation uses a combination of dermal filler and collagen stimulator injections to add volume to the chin for results that can last 18 months or more. This approach is a good option if you’d like to experiment with changes to your facial appearance in a non-permanent way. A custom-fit chin implant is a great way to improve the side profile and bring the facial proportions into balance. Chin implants can be permanent, though silicone options are easy to remove if desired. Creating an incision in the natural crease of the chin can help to minimize visible scarring post-surgery. I recommend scheduling an in-person consultation with an experienced, board-certified facial plastic surgeon or injector who can go over each option with you and help you make an informed decision.

Answer: Implant vs Filler Thank you for your questions regarding chin implant vs fillers. The biggest difference is that a chin implant is permanent. It will be a one and done. You will have to consistently have your filler redone. In my experience, chin implant patients scars heal very well and you often have to look very hard for the scar after 1 year. To be sure, see two or more experienced, licensed and board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. I hope this helps.
