Hello , I currently have chin filler , and wondered whether this has to be completely dissolved before getting a chin implant . If it isn’t fully , what are the complications that could arise ? Many thanks
Answer: Filler and chin implant Hello, Thank you for your question about dissolving filler before having a chin implant. There are several potential advantages to dissolving the filler prior to your implant procedure, both for planning and technical execution. 1. Accurate Assessment for Implant Placement: Chin fillers can temporarily change the thickness of the soft tissues. When the filler dissolves, the actual distribution may not be even, which can lead to a miscalculation of the implant position. Without the filler, your surgeon can better assess the natural anatomy of your chin and ensure that the implant is positioned correctly. 2. Precise Augmentation Planning: Planning the amount of augmentation needed to achieve your desired long-term result with an implant can be more accurately determined when no filler is present. The filler might give a misleading impression of the required enhancement, leading to potential over- or under-correction if it remains in place during planning. 3. Reduced Risk of Infection: Although more difficult to evaluate, there may be a slightly higher risk of infection if the filler is not dissolved before the implant procedure. Ensuring that the tissue is in its natural state can help minimize any potential complications during and after surgery. Overall, dissolving the filler can provide a clearer picture for both you and your surgeon, leading to a more accurate and safer surgical outcome.

Answer: Filler may be dissolved before chin implant surgery to ensure a proper sizing. Most of the times, temporary injectable fillers can be palpated in the soft tissue of the chin. It may be best however to have that filler dissolved so your surgeon can ensure your implant would be the proper size for your facial features. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr. Joseph

Answer: Fillers and chin implant There is no need to dissolve all filler material before placing a chin implant. The implant is placed above the bone, in the subperiosteal layer where usually there is not much filler. However, this needs to be discussed with your surgeon ahead of surgery. Good luck.

Answer: Fillers before implant augmentation Fillers in the presence of cosmetic surgery can distort the perception of what the natural tissues look like. In the case of chin augmentation with fillers, it could lead to the surgeon, placing an implant that is slightly smaller than what is needed. There is no yes or no answer to your question. It depends. One variable is how much filler was placed and how long ago it was injected. Each provider will have their own opinion. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
