Is throbbing and aches/pain normal almost 4 weeks after breast augmentation? (Photo)

I got my breasts done 3 weeks 1/2 wks ago (325cc silicone submusc.) and the left breast was the more swollen and painful breast (it's the slightly larger one). I've always felt weird shooting pains on and off but knew this was normal. My breasts look great so far, no bruising but the left breast just yesterday started to get a throbbing/shooting pain in it like a trapped air feeling. The pain increases when I laugh or take a heavy breath. It almost feels like the ache is in my left arm as well.

Thank you for your question and congratulations on your surgery!  After an augmentation the nerves of the skin are stretched as a result of swelling and the increased volume of the implants.  This stretching irritates the nerves which can cause a number of different nipple and breast skin sensations including increased/decreased sensitivity or a burning/electrical feeling.  These normally resolve spontaneously given enough time. Hang in there but be sure to mention these issues to your surgeon during your post-operative appointment.

With no bruising, and modest swelling, and a nice early result, it appears that your surgery was technically well done.  Shooting pains can occur and last for several weeks after breast augmentation.  Nevertheless, I would check with your surgeon.  A direct exam would be helpful to rule out any other issues, but they sound normal.

Sensory issues after breast augmentation are common, and these usually resolve with time. Best to give it more time to heal. They do look nice at this point.
