Hello I had a TT done in Dominican 4 mos ago. I luv my results but have developed a seroma that have been drained 4x from a PS here in Chicago. I decided 2 go 2 my Primary cause the PS didnt want 2 drain anymore cause of risk. he referred me 2 a general surgeon which ordered me a CAT scan. My results show i have several cavities of fluid in my upper stomach. Will my insurance cover it. I have BCBS PPO. He refered me to the PS there. My appt in 3 days. Only surgery can remove cavity at this point

It all depends on your insurance company. The fluid collections may still resolve on their own. If they do not and you require surgery, your insurance company may deny the coverage if they find out it is a complication from cosmetic surgery.

It's a grey area. You have to review your insurance plan in detail to see if there is a clause stating that they will not cover complications from cosmetic surgery. Some plans have this clause and some do not. There are a number of companies that offer added insurance that's available before your procedure. Assuming you did not purchase this and you now have no immediate help as your surgeon is thousands of miles away, it's an unknown. Im sorry your in this difficult situation. Best of luck!

Hi jackson1781I am sorry to hear of your ordeal.  You may also find it difficult to get a doctor to sign on to fix another surgeons complication, especially from out of the country.You will likely need surgery to correct, but you may want to ask about sclerotherapy first as a hail Mary.You are at risk for recurrent seromas.Regarding insurance coverage, you must check with your insurance company, and refer specifically to your policy- all are different.All the best.

Great question.  Insurance companies typically will not cover the complications from a cosmetic surgery procedure.  It is policy dependent however, so a review of your policy is in order.  You may seek the opinion of a local Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, there are many in the Chicago area and arrangements may be made to take care of this quickly, efficiently and economically.
