I am a 34 year old male. I have had enlarged breasts since puberty; they feel like lumps underneath both nipples. This problem has been causing me distress because the bumps are visible when I have clothing on. I am seeing a surgeon next week since I suppose the only option is surgical excision of the glands. I am interested in knowing your opinion about possible options and the extent of the problem based on what the pictures show.
Answer: Breasts Since Puberty It does appear you have mild gynecomastia. Be sure to see a board certified plastic surgeon that specializes in gynecomastia. View many before and after pictures. Good luck.

Answer: I've enlarged breasts since puberty, do I have gynecomastia? Without examining you it's really tough to know exactly what you have, but if you are describing lumps that you can distinctly feel then changes are you do have some glandular tissue that needs to be excised. The surgeon you meet with should be able to tell you after they examine your chest.

Answer: I've enlarged breasts since puberty, do I have gynecomastia? Accurate diagnosis would necessitate physical examination. It IS important to differentiate as uncomfortable as gynecomastia ( excess breast tissue) from lipomastia ( otherwise known as pseudo-gynecomastia or excess adipose tissue of chest wall). Treatment will differ depending on diagnosis. Generally speaking, liposuction surgery alone is useful to treat lipomastia (an enlarged chest secondary to adipose tissue); rarely does it suffices as the only modality of treatment when it comes to treating true gynecomastia. On the other hand, if there is no "excess" adipose tissue, liposuction surgery may not be necessary at all. Most patients with gynecomastia benefit from direct excision of glandular tissue plus/minus peripheral liposuction surgery. My best suggestion: seek consultation with board-certified plastic surgeons who can demonstrate significant experience achieving the types of outcomes you will be pleased with. Best wishes.

Answer: Gynecomastia Yes, it looks as though you have mild gynecomastia.Of course a good exam is really needed to confirm it. Surgical correction done by a good experienced gynecomastia surgeon is generally quick, with an easy recovery, and leaves you with a permanent smotth correction. I would advise going to get some real consultations if you want to be done with it once and for all. Good luck.

Answer: Gynecomastia Surgery Hello, and thank you for your question. (Keep in mind that an in-person consultation is necessary for the best advice.) Based on your photos, gynecomastia surgery may be a good option to create a more masculine-looking chest through only a few small incisions. If you decide to pursue surgery it’s very important that you find a surgeon whom you are comfortable with and trust and who evaluates you in-person and tailors an individualized treatment plan for you and your aesthetic goals. Best of luck! Matthew A. DelMauro, M.D
