In my 2 weeks post op a friend hugged and lifted me. My right implant is funny looking. Is it related?

Two weeks post op, my friend gave me a bear hug, lifting me off the ground, despite my protests. I felt a sharp pain on the right side. I'm 8 months post op, and my right breast still looks a little weird at certain angles. I have 550cc height profile smooth silicone, biplaner insertion. It's almost like the implant... Pokes out? From under my muscle. It's the most visible when I lie on my back or lean forward, and does not happen with the left side. Did my friend break my breast?

I doubt your friend broke your implant but might have caused an injury. Some soft tissue around the implant may have torn and the implant gotten a bit out of position. Go see your plastic surgeon.

Dear Missondine,Thank you for your post.  It is difficult to know if this was the cause or not, but it is certainly a possibility.  What is most likely happening, is the implant has a fold in it causing the tip of the fold to poke out.  It is very unlikely that the implant is 'broken' or ruptured, just that it is slightly malpositioned.  Now whether your friend caused this or not, is certainly possible, but impossible to know for sure.  It could be that it was like that but covered by swelling and this did not become apparent until the swelling went down.  This can be easily fixed, however, by a small revision to adjust the implant and implant pocket.Best Wishes, PAblo Prichard, MD

Thank you for your question.  It is possible that a bear hug can displace a breast implant.  This may be due to the implant stretching and displacing below the pectoralis muscle or a tear in the normal breast implant capsule.  I suggest you visit your plastic surgeon for an examination.
