Far more important than the techniqueis the skill and experience of your plastic surgeon. Choose your surgeon ratherthan the technique and let them explain why one technique may be better thananother. See the below link on somesuggestions on finding the most qualified Plastic Surgeon for a Breast Reduction. Removal of underarm fatty tissue is generally done with liposuction but you should probably check with your surgeon.
I prefer to use aminimal incision surgery during a #BreastReduction. I use a “#vertical” or “#lollipopBreastReduction scartechnique. Thebenefits include: approximately fifty percent less scarring, a narrower breast, better forward projection and shape, longer lasting improvement, shortersurgery time and less complications. In general, we have stopped using theolder traditional “anchor” or inverted “T” incisions as these provide inferiorresults. #Liposuction may also be used during the procedureto reduce the size of the breast in selected patients. Liposuction alone hasthe least number and size of scars but has the greatest limitations in shapingand reducing the breast. Liposuction may be combined with the vertical methodto give an optimal shape to your breasts. Adjustments of the #Nipple and/orAreola can also be done at the same time.
You can liposuction this area as well. But if there is significant excess skin and fat then yes extending the transverse incision under the arms can help. I would go over these options with your PS
The underarm fat could be removed just with liposuction of the arms. The fatty tissue at the side of the breasts can be liposuculpted out and that would be done at the same time . That is called the axilla and the pre pectoral fat. I lipo that all the time with my breast surgeries. Look for a board certified plastic surgeon. Good luck!Andrew Cohen, MD
With the Wise pattern or anchor shaped scar breast reduction the extent to which the skin excision goes around the chest under the arm is something you need to discuss with your surgeon. At some point one has to accept that it stops being a breast reduction and becomes a lateral chest wall excision.A photograph of what you are asking about would be helpful to be sure we are answering your question correctly.
