Prior to a PRP injection it would be wise to stop aspirin or ibuprofen (and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as naproxyn and toradol) five to six days before the scheduled procedure. You do not need to stop acetaminophen (Tylenol) at all as it has no effects on platelets or clotting. You may resume the use of ibuprofen a couple of days after your procedure.
susansl, That is a very good question. Tylenol is OK before procedures. Ibuprofen should not be taken for up 5 day before treatment. Aspirin and other NSAID, like ibuprofen, can cause platelets to not function properly. Healthy platelets are needed for good PRP results.. Thanks and best wishes.. Dr. John.
I generally advise to hold all NSAID’s (non-steroidal anti inflammatories) such as Ibuprofen, Aleve, Mobic, diclofenac, etc for 3-4 days before and for 5-7 days after the procedure. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is ok to use right up to the procedure and after. I hope that helps!
There is no reason to stop the Tylenol but you should hold anything that can interfere with platelet function. These include ibuprofen, aleve, toradol etc for 48 hours before and 48 to 72 hours after. I also tell my clients to hold the omega/fish oils.
