Thanks for the question. Generally, most patients can fly within 2-4 weeks after mommy makeover operation. I wish you all the best.
The main risk (also one for passengers without surgery) will be the possibility of developing a clot in one of your deep leg veins, DVT, that could travel to your lungs (Pulmonary Embolism). Venous blood clot risk factors include sitting for prolonged times (for example prolonged plane flights or road trips) obesity, oral contraceptive use, sedentary lifestyle, familial clotting disorders. to minimize this from happening to you, I would keep hydrated, wear TED stockings(in the case of a tummy tuck), walk around often and frequently, keep your legs elevated if possible and mover your legs, ankles and feet often while sitting.
Bottom line, speak with your surgeon as he or she knows your case most intimately. However, by the time you recover from your surgery and can actually return to work, any increased danger from flying will have passed. So, it's really going to depend on how your fast your body heals. Best, Dr. Nazarian
I appreciate your question.I would not recommend flying for 4 weeks after Mommy Makeover for risk of DVT. Discuss with your surgeon when he/she recommends you can return to work since your surgeon is most familiar with your medical history. The best way to assess and givetrue advice would be an in-person exam. Please see a board-certifiedplastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic and restorative plastic surgery.Best of luck!Dr. Schwartz
Once you are recovered you should be fine. The risk of blood clots associated with travel (especially after surgery) is the lack of flow in the veins while in a sitting position for a long time. For most people, with normal risks I think that by the time you recover enough for the demands of your job, that the flight component would not be a risk. Speak to your surgeon about your specific risks and techniques to minimize them.Dr Rodger ShorttOakville Plastic SurgeonAssistant Clinical Professor &Director of Cosmetic Surgery Training,McMaster University
Mommy makeover : aftercare and flyingFlying within 5-7 days of general anesthesia can increase the chances of DVTor blood clots.Swelling and discomfort can be affected by the decompression
Typically it's recommended that patients do not fly for a few weeks after surgery. Flying can increase your chance of developing blood clots which can be dangerous. There are efforts that can be made to decrease risk when flying such as wearing compression stockings, moving about the cabin when safe to do so, and even medications when indicated. After a Mommy Makeover many patients can return to work after two to three weeks. However depending on what your Mommy Makeover entails you may have lifting restrictions for up to six weeks. Visit with a board certified plastic surgeon near you to learn more.
Once you are healed, flying or high altitude should not adversely affect your healing process. It will depend on what you do at your job. Depending on the procedures that you get, you should avoid heavy lifting, pulling, pushing, etc. Please check with your plastic surgeon as well.Best regards.
Flying or altitude is not the issue. Activity/straining/comfort and energy are the issues. Most doctors don't care where you are, but what you are and are not doing. Ask your surgeon what your physical limitations will be and for how long. You may well be released from any restriction before you are comfortable to fully do them and it also takes some time for energy to return. So.....it depends on your job requirement, your motivation and your surgeon.
Thank you for the question. Your plastic surgeon, knowing exactly what operation was done and how you are progressing, will be your best resource when it comes to returning to specific activities. Generally speaking, you will find that any in-flight pressure changes will not have any adverse effects on the healing process. I would suggest staying very well hydrated and walking frequently. Best wishes.
I'm assuming by "catheters" you are referring to urinary catheters. Typically with Mommy Makeover procedures a urinary catheter is placed while you are under anesthesia. For shorter procedures the surgeon may not use one. Often times the catheter is removed before you fully wake up. ...
After a Mommy Makeover patients are generally most comfortable sleeping on their backs in a semi reclined position. This can be accomplished either by sleeping in an actual recliner or it can be simulated with pillows. This position takes the pressure off the tummy muscles.
It is not necessary to buy absorbent pads after your mommy makeover. There should not be copious amounts of drainage. Patients can use towels or absorbent pads for the first few days if desired in order to protect bedding or the fabric on furniture from any small leaks.
