Honestly, given your dialysis, I don't think cosmetic surgery is a good idea. It's simply too much of a risk to take with your health. Best, Dr. Nazarian

As you point out in your last sentence, you really need to be more worried about a transplant than cosmetic surgery.  The dialysis catheter for peritoneal dialysis is going to be in the way of a tummy tuck.  While I understand that your health issues have taken a toll on your self-esteem, I think diet and exercise would be a much healthier approach to changing your body than cosmetic surgery at this stage in your life.  Best of luck with your wait for a transplant and with your health!

I personally don't think I would offer elective liposuction to a patient on peritoneal dialysis. The risks, in my opinion, would be too great for this optional procedure. Nevertheless, if your nephrologist feels it's okay I'm sure you can find a good plastic surgeon to perform the procedure understanding the risks that are involved.

I doubt any good surgeon would think the benefits outweigh the risks in your situation. While I HAVE operated on a number of patients AFTER transplant surgery (their health/function is good) there are anesthetic/physiologic/technical issues that argue against considering elective cosmetic surgery at this time in you.

If you were a candidate you need to be operated in a hospital setting, so expenses very high, for your safety. Therefore you should stay in GA and not come to MIAMI or any other out of town locale for these cosmetic surgeries. The reason is if something went south and you need medical care, you need to be near your medical docs NOT starting with some unknown docs in Miami.  Plus peritoneal dialysis excludes you from any abdominal operations, i.e. full TT or abdominal lipo..

Although you may have gotten clearance while you were on hemodialysis for lipo, this changes now that you are on peritoneal dialysis as the port is in the surgical field for a tummy tuck and that would put you at an increase risks for disastrous complications.  You will need to have a lengthy discussion with your nephrologist and primary care physician again because the surgery you want now is a major surgery and it will be very difficult to find a PS who would be willing to perform this mommy makeover for you.
