This question is best answered by your surgeon since there are different types of tummy tucks. In general, once you are standing up straight comfortably, it should be safe to sleep on your back. That is usually between one and two weeks post-op. Good luck!
Sleeping on your back is the best position possible for healing and for most people most of the time. It is anatomically correct, doesn't contort your spine like belly and side sleeping and wont misshape your breasts or face. You are smart if you choose to sleep this way and make it even more comfortable by placing a few pillows under your knees to put you in the chaise lounge position that even our astronauts go to space in.
The best position to sleep in after a mommy makeover is on your back with 2-3 pillows behind your back and 1 under your knees. This takes tension off the abdominoplasty closure. It also prevents pressure on the breasts after a lift or augmentation which I think is important. Speak to your doctor to see if or why they advise otherwise.Dr Rodger ShorttOakville Plastic SurgeonAssistant Clinical Professor &Director of Cosmetic Surgery Training,McMaster University
I appreciate your question.I advise my Mommy Makeover patients to sleep on their back with their chest elevated ( 2-3 pillows) for 1-2 weeks depending on how they are healing. Since each surgeon has their own post op protocol, best to discuss with yours what he/she recommends for you since your surgeon is most familiar with your medical history and how you are healing. The best way to assess and givetrue advice would be an in-person exam. Please see a board-certifiedplastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic and restorative plastic surgery.best of luck!Dr Schwartz
Hello, thank you for your question. It is not unusual for patients to have difficultysleeping on their back after surgery. For this reason, they are often eager toreturn to side or abdomen sleeping. Unfortunately after mommy makeover surgery,we feel it’s important to keep the abdomen flexed for one to two weeks after surgery.Wegenerally recommend that patients sleep in a recliner chair for one to twoweeks following mommy makeover surgery. Although patients may stay flexed whilesleeping on their sides, they sometimes turn and extend their backs reflexedlyin addition, side sleeping can cause displacement of breast implants followingbreast augmentation. These problems don’t occur in a recliner chair or also itis recommended to use pillows as well. However, each surgeon has their ownprotocol, it is important you discuss them with him/her. Wish you best of luck.
Since very surgeon has his or her own post op protocol, you might want to ask your surgeon. In general, I advise my breast and tummy tuck patients to sleep on their back with their chest elevated for at least the first week. Then, sleep in whatever position is comfortable. Hope this helps, Dr. Nazarian
In my practice I permit patients to sleep in any position that makes them comfortable. After and abdominoplasty flexion of the abdomen generally relieves some attention.
After a tummy tuck you may need to sleep in a slightly flexed position, back and knees elevated for anywhere from 2-5 days, after that I think it is all about comfort. If it hurts don't do it--my number one post op rule. Jane
This is a very common question asked by most surgery patients, if you've had your breasts and stomach done, it's best to sleep in an elevated position for at least the first week to alleviate the swelling. Once into the following weeks, you may start to sleep on your back as you begin to feel a little more comfortable in this position.
After a Mommy Makeover patients are generally most comfortable sleeping on their backs in a semi reclined position. This can be accomplished either by sleeping in an actual recliner or it can be simulated with pillows. This position takes the pressure off the tummy muscles.
It is not necessary to buy absorbent pads after your mommy makeover. There should not be copious amounts of drainage. Patients can use towels or absorbent pads for the first few days if desired in order to protect bedding or the fabric on furniture from any small leaks.
Splitting up the cost with different payment methods is possible. Just discuss your needs with your surgeon's office and they should be able to help you.
Dear Flgirl, The laser hair removal per se should not be a problem for getting it before mommy make over surgery, especially when done on the legs or arms. When done on the pubic area it is more of a concern. The reason for the concern is local infection due to injury from the...
