Dear Surgtroop, every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. This question is best answered by your surgeon. Each will have her/his own opinions. Your surgeon is most familiar with your surgical plan and medical history and will ultimately decide if it's okay for you to proceed as planned.
This is a question only your operating surgeon may answer. Some physicians are a bit cautious of using steroids prior to surgery due to the slight increased risk of infection.Best wishes.Dr. Taranow
Some plastic surgeons are worried that steroids can inhibit immune response and cars complications. There is actually very little evidence of this and the total dose of steroids used for hip injections it’s fairly small because it’s not used systemically. The answer to your question will vary substantially from one provider to the next.I personally would not have much of an issue with it and if you’re suffering from hip pain then I would want you to get some relief. If it isn’t that bad and you can wait to have the hip injection after the procedure then that might be slightly advantageous from a plastic surgery perspective.Either way you should definitely tell your plastic surgeon about this and disclose your full medical history before any surgical procedure.Best,Mats Hagstrom MD
