Is it normal to suddenly get dizzy spells after the CoolSculpting procedure?

I had my one and only coolsculpting session on my abdomen. It was pretty painful during the first few minutes of the procedure. I thought I was going to faint, but didn't. Now I'm noticing that I'm suddenly getting dizzy for no reason every now and then. I rarely ever got dizzy before I had the procedure, unless I was sick. Is this normal?

Hello and thank you for your question.  It is not unusual to experience lightheadedness or dizziness during or immediately after a coolsculpting treatment. Sometimes this feeling is provoked from pain or nervousness surrounding the treatment, or simply the cryolipolysis process itself. Some people find sitting up too quickly can cause dizziness as well.  If you are experiencing ongoing episodes of dizziness it is best to follow up with your family doctor. Paint during the initial phase of treatment is common and is less with newer applicators. Feeling of fainting during that same period can happen. After the treatment fainting spells are not heard of. I recommend discussing that with your provider and could be two totally different issues.

This isn't a typical reaction after a Coolsculpting treatment. If it persists, I recommend following up with your Doctor for a formal evaluation. Keep in mind, some people need more than one treatment of Coolsculpting and for best results with Coolsculpting, I recommend a combination approach. I recommend adding radiofrequency treatments like Vanquish, Venus Legacy, Exilis Ultra for skin tightening and with Z wave/Cellutone for skin smoothing to improve your final results. See an expert. Even though some patients experience dizziness right after Coolsculpting treatment (happens from standing up to fast), symptoms should not persist for long period of time after treatment. Although we've seen patients experience dizziness right after a CoolSculpting® treatment (often from simply standing up too fast after their session), symptoms shouldn't persist for as long as you describe. Dizziness post Coolsculpting is not uncommon and can be caused by several factors.  Sometimes dizziness and nausea are a pain response to the suction, cooling of tissue, or the warming up of tissue after the applicator comes off.  This is normal and will pass within several minutes.  Dizziness can also be caused by anxiety/nerves due to "fear of the unknown."  I find the best way to prevent this from happening is to make sure you have discussed what to expect before, during and after your treatment with your technician.  Talking about any fears you may have and watching utube videos of treatments can also be helpful because it prepares you for what to expect each step of the way.  Lastly, I tell all my clients to have a light meal or snack about an hour before treatment so they are not coming in on an empty stomach!

Occasionally we will see a patient experience dizziness/lightheadedness upon the initial placement of the CoolSculpting applicator and/or during the process of massaging the area immediately after the applicator is removed. The lightheadedness is from a transient lowering of the blood pressure and pulse in response to anxiety and/or discomfort from the treatment. It is very unusual to experience ongoing intermittent dizziness after CoolSculpting. I would recommend seeing your internist to explore other possible reasons for your symptoms.

Thanks for your question.  Having successfully treated tens of thousands of CoolSculpting patients over the last few years, we have seen a few get dizzy both during and after the treatment.. Although this a rare occurrence, it can happen. The body is being undergoing  change that takes the system by surprise. We always ask that our patients remain lying down and take some nice deep breaths for a couple of minutes post treatment. Standing up too fast after a portion of the body has undergone cryolipolysis can cause light-headedness.  However, we have not had any clients state that they are continuing to experience dizziness at any time post treatment.  I would suggest that you schedule an appointment with your physician to see if there is a separate issue that needs to be addressed. This is not a typical symptom following a CoolSculpting treatment. If the issue persists or worsens, I would encourage you to visit your primary care doctor for an evaluation. The problem could be totally unrelated to your treatment. Pay close attention to what you are eating and when, as well as being sure you are keeping yourself well hydrated. Best of Luck!
