Coolsculpting at ideal image - 8 treatment areas in abdomen?

It is very important for you to understand the concept of how the Coolsculpting treatment areas are decided, it is  based on the amount of fat, thickness of the fat in the abdominal area, and not your height and weight.  
It is hard to give you an answer without examining you, if you are unsure of the total number of treatments, why not ask the physician who is in charge of  Ideal Image? 

Hi.  8 is not an unusual number for upper and lower abdominal contouring. Depending upon the size of your upper and lower abdominal fat pockets under the skin, the small applicators may not be long enough and hence require more with overlap (common when there are curtaining of tissue).  The largest applicator called the CoolMax is the equivalent of 2 cycles so they may be suggesting it be applied 4 times total. The other possibility is that the thickness of the deposit is such that a second round of treatments is being recommended (2 rounds of 4 cycles with the smaller applicators).  In any case, the price is usually dependent upon the total number of cycles thought to be necessary.  Wouldn't hurt to get a second in person examination elsewhere...good luck!

For the majority of individuals, the total would be 4 small applicators, 2 above the navel, and 2 below, forming a diamond shape.  I would need more information and to see you in person, or at least some pictures, to truly know what is required for you.  We generally recommend that our CoolSculpting patients treat twice for best results. So, it is possible that if you were asked to treat twice, your total would be 8 applications(4 each time). Additionally, if you were also treating your love handles, that would add 2 more applicators. And, some patients are wider in the hips, and require the CoolAdvantage Plus applied twice on the lower abdomen. Each CoolAdvantage Plus treats 2 areas in one applicator, so that would also provide 2 extra areas.  Honestly, I would recommend that you contact your provider and ask for a detailed explanation of what applicators are going to be used and where they will be applied.  Also, make sure that you are clear on how many treatments they are recommending overall.  Good luck with everything.  CoolSculpting works, so enjoy your journey to a new you!

Unfortunately, without an in person examination it is very difficult to assess the number of cycles you would need to completely treat your upper and lower abdomen. However, I can say that multiple cycles in one appointment is completely safe. For the best results it is recommended to follow the Treatment to Transformation protocol. The Treatment to Transformation protocol dictates that the entire cosmetic area (i.e. stomach, love handles, back, etc) be treated fully to obtain the best body contouring response. Blood work looking at cholesterol, liver function, triglycerides, etc were analyzed and found to be stable in the studies used to obtain CoolSculpting's FDA clearance.

Everyone's body is unique. Some need 4,6 , 8 or more. The 35 minute applicators are the newer more efficient and faster ones. This is the best we have for Coolsculpting. Make sure you got the multiple area discount. Coolsculpting has a template they use.

That many applicators seems to be more than usual for just the upper and lower abdomen. It is hard to know what is recommended without seeing pictures or evaluating you in person. I would recommend having another conversation with your provider to clarify, as well as consider getting a second opinion at another practice. 

Hello! I have not heard of that many applicators with Coolsculpting for such a small area unless you were quoted for SculpSure. Sculpsure is laserlipolisis instead of cryolipolisis and has business size applicators which take an average of 4 applicators for the lower abdomen and 2-3 for the upper abdomen. These areas are recommended to do done at the same time. Was she maybe going to also treat your hip area? I would go for a second opinion, and see if they are on the same page. There are a variety of configurations that can be used but the number of applicators should be close.

Without an exam or photos it's difficult to comment , but you would want to clarify that you are only treating upper and lower abdomen and not the flanks. 8 applicators for someone your size seems a bit much for just a lower and upper abdomen . When coolsculpting first started ( known as Zeltiq in 2010) the protocols were really to just use one applicator on one area . With time, we learned more applicators would produce better results. Seeing that the applicators are 3x7 , there is only so much surface area an applicator can cover.  In my opinion the coolsculpting company trains its users to use "more applicators " than necessary. This is partially due to monetary gain as each physican pays a percentage of each treatment via a key card to the coolsculpting company . Therefore the coolsculpting company is incentivized to train its users  to use more applications than typically necessary . Though I can not argue with results being slightly better, my practice philosophy is " less is more", you can always come back and repeat the treatment & do more coolscultping . By initially using less applications It's more cost conserving to the patient , and people respond differently in terms of results. Some people , get limited return on their treatment because it's a non invasive procedure, some people may have higher expectations than what coolsculpting can provide  .  In my opinion and as one of the first users of coolsculpting since 2010 , Someone your size 4 applications ( 2 upper and 2 lower) for the abdomen should be more than sufficient . Just in terms of monetary cost & results  , you would be best doing liposuction than 8 applicators to your upper and lower abdomen 

Thanks for your question! The number of Coolsculpt applicators being used is dependent on your goals and areas of concerns. There actually is skill and even art involved with placing the correct applicator to the correct area. My long torso patients do need more applicators simply because there is more area to cover. Or perhaps they included the flanks as well. During my consultations, I place the templates on my patient's abdomen etc and show them exactly what I will be treating.
