I'm considering either Ultherapy or Exilis for skin tightening around the face and neck. Which one has the better results and what is the difference between the two?
Answer: Ultherapy vs Exilis or ThermiSmooth or Pelleve or Venus Freeze Ultherapy is the only recognized deeply penetrating focused ultrasound energy used to tighten and lift facial skin. Other external, non-invasive, energy sources use radiofrequency. These devices include: Exilis, Venus Freeze, Pelleve and ThermiSmooth and Thermage.I have had very nice improvement with a series of the non-invasive external energy of Pelleve and ThermiSmooth and with one treatment of Ultherapy. I could never say that one non invasive radiofrequency is the same as one Ultherapy treatment. The radiofrequencies require a series of non invasive treatments. Usually these series involve five or six treatments. The information provided in Dr. Shelton's answer is for educational purposes only and is not intended to constitute medical advice. Answer: Ultrasound is the new gold standard over Radio Frequency The primary difference between Ultherapy and Exilis is the way that subdermal heating is being achieved. Subdermal heating causes the body to produce collagen which gives the lift that we are looking for when using treatments like this. With Radio Frequency the temperatures must be restrained because all of the heat that is delivered to the skin must penetrate through the surface of the skin and make its way inside. As a result less heat can be used and treatment depths cannot be as aggressive. With Ultherapy the energy is ultrasonnic waves which pass through the surface of the skin without causing any heat to be transmitted up there. When the waves converge at the treatment depth they bounce into each other and generate friction/ heat this allows for significant temperatures to be reached and for great collagen production down in the deeper layers of the face providing industry leading non-invasive results.

Answer: Exilis and Ultherapy Thanks for your question. Ultherapy is fractionated ultrasound and works to tighten the skin of the face and neck in one treatment. It can take upwards of three months to see the full effect in some, but most patients are extremely happy with the end result of this treatment. There is some pain, at times, with this but most can tolerate it with the protocols that are being used today. Exilis uses radiofrequency (RF) energy to tighten the skin of the face and neck. Most can expect to have 4-6 treatments over a 4-6 month period of time to get the optimum results. There can be some discomfort, but again, this is tolerable in most. There are other RF devices that are being used in this area with great success – these include the Venus Legacy, the EndyMed 3Deep, the Alma Accent, and the Ellman Pelleve. Have a consultation with a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon and learn the treatment options and what will work best for you
