Ace bandage wrapped below breast! Is this normal?

Question

I just had a second breast augmentation. I went from 300cc to 550cc and also an internal bra lift -- capsullarphy. For recovery - I am in a surgical bra (luckily no fluid drain) and wrapped in an annoying, itchy, ace bandage. The bandage is wrapped underneath. Literally looks like it serves no purpose. Perhaps holding the implant upward / covering incision !? But doesn't seem like it. I see the dr for follow up in 2 days. Maybe I'm wrapped wrong & don't even know it.

Many surgeons use such a bandage in the immediate postop period to support the lower pole and avoid descent of the implant from any sudden movement or activity.  It helps protect the suturing done in the surgery.  If you can stand it for a couple of days I would not remove it.

There may be a functional reason why your plastic surgeon wants the ace bandage where you report it. He will explain this to you and let you know when it can be released.

Every surgeon is a bit different in terms of post-op care.  I usually have patients wear a sports bra that is not too tight.

You should contact your PS, particularly at this early date.  Based on what you describe you had, a capsulorraphy, pressure on the sutures may be exactly what he or she intended.  Alternatively, the bandage may have slipped, or there might be another explanation.Either way, a quick call to your PS should help decide if you can leave things the way they are now, or if adjustments need to be made.I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr. Alan EnglerMember of RealSelf100
