Hi Im Ella.I have a crooked nose/uneven nostrils/breathing issues.Only 1 side of my lips goes up when I smile. In the mirror my nose/lips look fine.In pics theyre prominent.Due 2 religion I cant get a nose job 4 aesthetics.I can fix the medical issue.Idk if I have a deviated septum but is there a way 2 correct it that will also fix the look? Also, I have a big overbite.Top teeth cover the bottom fully. Is that why 1 side rises?Im getting braces/was wondering if theyll help the lip issue.Thank you!!
Answer: Crooked nose and uneven lips I have heard of religions that do not allow blood transfusions. I have never heard of one that specifically prohibits plastic surgery. Even strict religious Muslims have plastic surgery. There is no way anyone can give you an intelligent answer with the very limited photos you posted. You mention your dental alignment but without photos or a complete side view photo it is impossible to say what the impact of straightening your teeth will be. Your best bet is to invest the money needed to see a local qualified plastic surgeon and get an opinion. That way you keep your privacy and get an opinion that is worth something. Think how much you paid for your last cell phone which will not last as long as a rhinoplasty/nose job. You wasted your time with this posting.

Answer: I have breathing issues and some aesthetic concerns. Hi Ella, thank you for your question and photos. It is very common to combine functional and aesthetic surgery during rhinoplasty. Regarding the appearance of your lips and teeth this will likely be unaffected by rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty is a complex operation and requires a nuanced in-person discussion of your goals, as well as a physical exam. I would suggest a formal consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon so your specific concerns can be gone over in detail, a physical exam be performed, and individualized recommendations be made. Good luck!

Answer: Crooked Nose and Uneven Lips You can have a septoplasty to improve your nasal function without making a significant change to the appearance of your nose if aesthetic surgery is prohibited by your religion. You and your religious mentors will have to decide why can be done with your nose within the parameters of your faith.

Answer: Septorhinoplasty Candidate Dear EllaVanderwaal, I have many patients in my practice that struggle with religious beliefs and cosmetic surgery. However, since you do have breathing issues that may need correction then the possibility of a septorhinoplasty may be discussed. An intra nasal examination would be needed to determine if you have a deviated septum and if this is the cause of your current breathing difficulties. If you do then a combined procedure of septorhinoplasty can be performed the "septo" portion will address the breathing difficulties and the "rhinoplasty" portion will address the slight refinements you request. The surgery itself will not have any bearing on your lips however after your dental care is finalized you may see some improvement there. Personally, I can not see any current problems with your lips in the posted photographs. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
