Do you have to pay for a consultation in order to get a rhinoplasty?

Practices vary in whether they charge for a consultation or not. We DO charge a nominal fee for the consultation and it gets applied toward your surgery if you decided to proceed.By charging a consultation fee, I can be more confident that the patient I'm seeing is giving surgery the serious consideration it deserves and that their visit with me is not something done on impulse. It's not like we do this to make money with these small consultation fees (and remember, the fee goes toward the surgery anyway), but it does act as a barrier to those who have no real intention of having surgery, thus freeing up appointment availability for properly motivated patients.All the best,--DCPPearson Facial Plastic Surgery®

If you are seeing a PS for a cosmetic rhinoplasty in many cases, the consultation is complimentary. If you have a breathing problem and wish to have this corrected, this is a medical evaluation and  is billable either to you or your insurance company.  There is a gray zone when your PS  examins the internal part of the nose and finds  a breathing  problem and makes you aware of it....that could be considered a medical evaluation.

In most cases, yes. Some surgeons will offer free consultations but if their time has no value it should make you wonder. It is critical to find the right rhinoplasty surgeon for you. It's definitely worth paying a consult fee to meet with your desired surgeon. Consult fees are typically a minor fraction of the $6000-10,000 you will pay for surgery and they are worth every penny.  In our practice, which urged her consultation for a rhinoplasty procedure because we spend over an hour with the patient discussing their expectations regarding the rhinoplasty procedure. Patient spend at least 30 minutes with the physician, and 30 minutes of patient care coordinator performing computer imaging and sometimes spent another 30 minutes with nurse going through the preoperative and postoperative instructions. Most  busy and experienced rhinoplasty surgeons  charge for consultations. Rhinoplasty is one of the hardest operations to perform correctly in the entire field of cosmetic surgery, so choose your surgeon based on extensive experience and results, and not over a free consultation

Great question. This is highly variable based on the area and the surgeon preference. Some surgeons do and some don't. It likely does not have any bearing on your result if the doctor does or does not charge, most important thing is how you feel about your surgeon after the consultation. Good luck!

Full disclosure, I charge for a cosmetic consultation ($130). The reason I charge is that I will spend as much time as needed with the patient to help them make the best decision for themselves. I do not sell, push, or "close the deal." You pay for an honest medical opinion based on your goals, anatomy, and ability to recover. To me that honest information is valuable. If a patient would like to schedule a second appt, I do not charge for subsequent follow up appts.. If they ened up scheduling surgery, I deduct the consult fee from surgical fee. I think a busy surgeon's time is valuable, and they will charge for it. They are also busy enough not to feel as though they need to book every case; thus you may get a more honest assessment. If you look at the best plastic surgeons in the country, they rarely advertise, and they almost all charge for cosmetic consultations. If you are in Ohio, Bahman Guyuron is your best bet for a rhinoplasty.
