It is normal to have numbness after a tummy tuck. This will go away with time, but there may be some areas which are persistently numb. This is not something that the patients complain about in the long term.
It is perfectly normal tohave numbness and tingling after a tummy tuck which is expected to slowly havesensation return to normal after many months and even years following yoursurgery. Although uncommon, permanent numbness and tingling can occur after tummytuck surgery, especially in the lower mid line area between the scarand belly button. In most cases there is some sensation present, just not thenormal pre-surgical amount. Please speak with your plastic surgeon about yourconcerns. #tummytucknumbness #tummytuckpost-op
Numbness is very common after tummy tuck surgery that being said people usuially have some sensation in different areas of their abdomen, wise to see your doc and express your concerns
Thank you for your question. What you are experiencing is completely normal, particularly at 18 days postop. Nerve recovery is very gradual and may take 12-18 months. Nerves grow about 1mm per day, or 1 inch per month. There are some areas that will recover quicker due to nerve swelling. This is likely the case on your back where you may have had some liposuction. In those areas the nerves are not cut, but they do not fire normally due to swelling. There are also some areas on your abdomen that may never get sensory return. This is most common just above the incision line in the middle. This area is the farthest from the nerves that are growing back in from the sides. Good luck.
Numbness along the abdominal wall after tummy tuck surgery is completely normal; it may take many months/years to have return of sensation. There may be areas of complete/permanent numbness as well. Best wishes.
Numbness is very normal after an abdominoplasty, everyone has it. sensation should inprove over time but will never be as though you did not have surgery because you did. This however should not effect internal things, like eating or feeling full after eating. That feeling is relayed to your brain by a nerve called the Vagus nerve. This canot be injured by your surgery. Hope that helps. Scott Green MD
Having some numbness of the skin of the anterior abdomen following a tummy tuck is very common and expected. Skin flaps are undermined during surgery to allow advancement and tightening of the abdominal skin. Nerve endings can be cut during this part of the procedure. As the incisions begin to heal postoperatively, the nerve endings can heal and regenerate as well and sensation can return to normal. This process can take several months or up to two years. Although it is possible to have some permanent loss of sensation following a tummy tuck, in the majority of cases, the sensation will return. I wish you a speedy recovery.
It is way early to judge on the outcome. Numbness in the lower abdomen is common after tummy tuck surgery. N part this is related to the bruising and the violation of the random cutaneous nerves across the incision line. I agree with your surgeon. This should improve with time.
Thank you for you question and photos. This could be residual swelling above the new belly button - this happens on occasion, and you are only 3 weeks after your surgery. If the bulge appeared suddenly after bending over, and is not gradually improving with time, then there is a...
You need a surgeon, a surgical technologist, a circulating nurse, and an anesthesiologist or cRNA.
Thanks for your question. I am sorry to hear about your problem. If your drains have been removed and you have a fluid collection, then you will likely need a needle drainage at the minimum. This will likely need to be repeated. If you still have a fluid collection after...
