It is best to contact your doctor about post operative care and instructions since each doctor has a different regimen. You can start washing your hair day after surgery.
Approximately 10 to 14 days one can usually go back to all normal hair routines. Including washing and styling.
You can wash the hair & scalp briskly on the 10th day after surgery. You can wash it gently on the second day.
You may start to wash your transplant area at second day of surgery with care and massage the transplant area gently so the scabs will fall off... After two weeks of hair transplantation it is acceptable to wash hairs as normal /preoperative period of surgery. All scabs should be cleaned with pressured (not gentle) massage to transplant area after 2 weeks .Dont forget that you may wash your head with normal pressure and if you need you can use a wet towel with soap for massage the scabby area, it Works very well to remove scabs .Patient may feel free to loosen any scabs on his/her head by massaging and that will not damage the grafts after 2 weeks .
After 7 to 10 days, the placed follicles are essentially grafted. I typically have my patients work the residuals scabs off of the donor site during this time. After 10 days, I permit typical washing which means allowing direct water from the shower head to hit the graft area. I warn against more robust scrubbing of the recipient site for about one month post procedure, but light washing is fine.I like my patients to get back into their routine of exercise as soon as possible with light exercise, such as walking and light arm work with weights. I ask them to refrain from signifiant exercises such as running, heavy leg work and exercise classes for at least 10 to 14 days.
you can start to wash after a couple of days very gently with antibacterial shampoo. However to return to normal routine of shampooing usually takes about ten days.
An FUE is treated just like a regular hair transplant with regard to the recipient area, but the donor area has open wounds which require daily washing with soap and water. Within 3 days of surgery, you can resume full activities, heavy exercises if you wish. The recipient area requires daily washes as well to keep the recipient area free of crusts. I generally recommend the use of a sponge and supply my patient with a surgical sponge to fill with soapy water and press on the recipient area daily. By repeating this daily, all crusts can be washed off without any fear of losing grafts. IF any crust is present, use a Q tip and dip it into soapy water, and roll it on the crusts and that will lift them off without dislodging them, but never rub them, just roll the Q tip on the recipient crust. I like to see no evidence of any crusting in the recipient area and the crusts from the donor area gone in 3-4 days with daily washing. To get the crusting off, you need to leave the shampoo on your hair for 10 minutes and as the crust become water logged, then will come off with gentle finger action. Repeat this twice a day until it is all gone.
It is best to follow your surgeon's instructions on post treatment care. You do not want to rub the area to coax the scabs off, however if they are coming off on their own that should be fine. Your surgeon is the best one to guide you as he/she is most familiar with the details of your...
FUE is only a harvesting method. Patients choose the FUE method to avoid the linear scar while accepting it may not be optimal. More importantly FUE requires shaving your head.
These things can happen and most times will not affect the results. If you did not have any bleeding or bruising in the area though, you most likely will be just fine and didn't dislodge any of the grafts.
