Is Volbella safe for a lip augmentation? (Photo)

Volbella is
the latest in hyaluronic-acid-based dermal fillers from Juvederm. It
is safe and FDA-approved. In fact, it's become my go-to product for
lip augmentation, owing to its silky, honey-like consistency that
makes it easy to create natural-looking volume. While every patient
will metabolize Volbella differently, the studies show the majority
of patients still noted improvement through year one.

I would probably
start you with just one syringe, as from your photos you are not
looking for a dramatic increase, just a more youthful and plumper
contour. We can always add more later, if you wish. Please consult a

Volbella
is very safe and a great product. If you want noticeable volume in your lips, I
recommend Juvederm Ultra XC and Juvederm Ultra Plus XC instead. 

Thank you for sharing your question.  Based on your narrative of wanting a significant increase in lip volume I would recommend a thicker hyaluronic acid dermal filler, such as Juvederm Ultra Plus.  Though in the same family as Juvederm, Volbella only achieves subtle increases in lip volume and lip definition but does last longer than Juvederm.  See an ASPS board certified plastic surgeon for the best treatment recommendation.  

Volbella is a relatively new product from the makers of Botox and Juvederm.  It is FDA cleared for a duration of 1 year in the lip region.  It comes in a smaller sized syringe than conventional Juvederm, so it may be more economical to choose the conventional products for lip augmentation.I like to use Volbella in our practice for lipstick lines that occur in older patients and with more subtle enhancements of the lips, rather than traditional lip augmentation.Best of luck!

Hello - great questions and thank you for providing photos. Volbella is a hyaluronic acid filler just like Juvederm, Voluma, Restylane, or Vollure. Volbella is a safe filler but it is very, very, very natural and is mostly used just to smooth out wrinkles in lips but not add very much plumpness. If you are looking for results similar to how you draw your lips in, I would suggest Juvederm, Juvederm Ultra Plus, or even Vollure (Vollure is the longest lasting of them all).

Yes. Volbella is very safe. I also think it is a great filler for "first timers" who are nervous about looking overdone. It gives a very subtle, natural looking improvement to the lips.

Vobella is made from the same company (Allergan) that makes Juvederm.  Although it is one of their newer products, it is still made from hyaluronic acid as is Juvederm.  Vobella is a great option for you if you want natural fullness and definition.  The product lasts about a year and can be reversed if necessary. During your consultation your facial specialist will review the various products available to help choose what would be the best for you to obtain your goals.  Best of luck!

Volbella is the latest filler from Allergan for the treatment of fine lines around the mouth.  Volbella is best used on small wrinkles or lines around the mouth caused by sun, smoking and aging.  It is a more subtle treatment than Juvederm or Restylane.  Lip augmentation with Volbella is more of an enhancement than a significant enlargement.  If you are interested in a significant amount of volume added to your lips, there would be other options you can use depending upon your desired result.  Volbella is a hyaluronic acid (HA), and most HA's have approval for up to a year.  It would be best to ask your physician his or her experience with a particular product's longevity.  Also, all HA's are reversible if the end result isn't what you had expected.  

We like to think of Volbella as a "glosser" in our practice.  It is great for lipstick lines (or "smoker's lines") and/or fine lines and wrinkles.  It is great to give you a subtle plump.  Or to "gloss" the lips after a thicker filler has been used to plump the lips (i.e. Juvederm Ultra, Ultra Plus or Restylane).  We think Volbella is a wonderful filler! 

Volbella is safe and a wonderful FDA approved injection for subtle lip volume and the wrinkles around the lips.  If you want your lips significantly larger I would prefer Juvederm for your lips.  It is important to consult a highly trained dermatologist with expertise in lips fillers for the best cosmetic result.  Best, Dr. Green
