Who takes out stitches? The surgeon or the surgical nurse?

Getting my stitches out soon from BA periaerolar incision and is it normal for surgical nurses to take out the stitches? This is my first BA and I am just genuinely curious. I would like to speak with my surgeon and I have some questions for my dr but can only seem to get ahold of post-op nurses.

I appreciate your question.

This depends on the practice.  However, if you want to see the surgeon ask to see the surgeon.  I would recommend you call in advance and specify this prior to your appointment to make sure that your surgeon is not in the operating room at the time of your visit.  Most important is patient care and satisfaction.  So I am sure your surgeon will be more than happy to see you and answer your questions.

The best way to assess and give
true advice would be an in-person exam.

It depends on the surgeon. Some remove the stitches. Others have their nurses do so. However, if you want to see your surgeon, then you should be able to see the surgeon. Best, Dr. Nazarian

This may vary from practice to practice.  Unless specified by your surgeon, generally the sutures are removed post operative by the nurses.  Should there be any questions of concern, you can guarantee that the medical staff will surely seek the guidance of your surgeon, your patient care and satisfaction is above all important across the board. Thank you for your question.  It depends on the surgeon and your preferences who can take the stitches out.  Some nurses are trained to take out stitches so it should be fine.  Just visit your surgeon if you want to speak to him  directly regarding this. Best of luck. Hi, CaliGaliAs long as your plastic surgeon's nurse is trained to remove the stitches, it should not be a problem for her to remove them.  If you want to speak with your plastic surgeon, you should be able to see him/her.  Your plastic surgeon should follow up and examine you closely post-op.Best regards.

Hello dear, thanks for your question, but that would depend on each Surgeon, sometimes nurses take out the stitches and sometimes surgeons take them out, but if want him to do it, you just have to tell him and Im sure he would do it . Best wishes :)

In some offices, the surgeon removes them and in other offices the nurse removes them. If you want to see the doctor, then ask to be seen by him.

That can depend on the practice, and the schedule of your PS. Some PS will remove them if they are in the office for your follow up, while others may allow the trained assistants to do so. Typically the calls are given to the nurses or other medically trained assistants, and if there is a question that can not be answered the surgeon will then clarify with them or by contacting you personally.
