Can temporary nose fillers give a permanent effect?

I have a silicone implant in my nose, but I want it more defined, I heard that going for temporary nose fillers twice can give some permanent effect and I won't need to go for it anymore, is that true?

Hello,
Thank you for your question. The answer is no. Short and long term fillers are harmless, as it is made of the proteins we already have in our bodies. However, permanent fillers are made of plastic and silicone which aren't found in our bodies, therefore may cause reactions and may not be dissolved as the others. We have seen temporary gel fillers last two years or longer and some peoples noses. To your point, sometimes temporary fillers can lead to permanent scar tissue and a permanent result. Hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr. Joseph

I have frequently injected filler to augment an existing silicone implant. The technique must be modified and more conservative in order to avoid disturbing the blood supply around the implant as well as avoiding infection. I prefer Voluma which is a long lasting and reversible filler. It lasts 1-2 years. I find that in some patients, the body begins to replace the Voluma with its own collagen over time. It can sometimes take more than two injections, but I do see that patients require less and less frequent injections overtime. Hope this helps!

Overall, temporary filler injections will not give a permanent result, even in the nose.  While some of the "effect" may not totally disappear over time, regular injections of temporary filler is more or less required to maintain the look you would like.Bellafill is a potential option as a filler for a more permanent result in your nose.Importantly: you particular situation is more complicated because you have had previous surgery to your nose.  I highly recommend you see a surgeon who performs rhinoplasty and is also an injection expert around the nose.  This can be a very risky procedure, especially when not done by a highly-qualified physician.Best of luck!

The answer to your question is yes, you can some fibrosis in the area of a temporary filler that may be permanent.  There are inherent risks of filler in the nose, infection, blindness, vascular occlusion and skin slough which are rare but obviously severe.  You risk, having a silicone implant is elevate specifically for infection as the introduction of filler could cause infection of your implant.  I not reccommend going the filler route, but if you do proceed with caution.
