Hardness under chin 2 months after Kybella treatment: 1 vial. Can I massage or do anything to reduce this condition? (photo)

Lymphatic massage may give improvement. It will take several weeks for final results with Kybella and it will need a combination approach. For best results with Kybella, I recommend a combination approach with thermage, ultherapy, exilis. VASER liposuction in combination with ThermiRF is an alternative for contouring the chin, if you're a candidate. Thank you for the question. I would recommend you consult with someone so they can examine the area in question.  It may be that there is an area of fat that has been missed by the treatment, vs an area of fat that became hard and calcified (fat necrosis) instead of being absorbed, or could have been a hematoma that has left some scar tissue behind.  A physical exam of the area would help to define the problem and make a plan to address it - small amount of liposuction, steroid injection, additional Kybella - depending on the problem. 

Kybella permanently reduces the fat under the chin. Kybella is a great procedure but one of the side effects is that it can cause some temporary swelling and nodules in the area that it is injected.  All of these side effects go away within days or weeks.  Zyrtec and ice can sometimes help the side effects go away faster.  Please consult a board certified dermatologist who is an expert in cosmetic injections for Kybella.  Best, Dr. Green

This can be improved with massage and continued compression at night. The hardness forms as a result of healing tissue and ideally and generally it does not stay. At times the swelling is bad enough that small doses of steroid can be injected to improve it. If you had the procedure done by a board certified doctor I recommend going and seeing him or her so that they can evaluate it. Good luck

Occasionally when fat is destroyed it forms hard lumps which usually resolve on their own over time. In my practice, I use Cellutone after every Kybella treatment to break up the fat and get the lymph flowing. This would likely help you now, even though it has been 2 months already. Zimmer makes a similar shock-wave device. Either one should help.
