There can be an increase of hair shedding with Finasteride and it can take up to 6 months to get results. I suggest seeing a hair loss expert now to go over your condition and provide you information about your best treatment options. There are great non-invasive options like prp/progesterone which can help with hair regrowth and/or hair transplantation. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
When evaluated over the long term of 12 months, Finasteride cannot make hair worse.. You may initially notice a shed of hairs that are in the resting phase. This means that the finasteride is working and new thicker hair will grow over the next few months. Find a hair loss expert. Ask to see photos.PRP hair MD.com
Sure. Finasteride can make hair worse in the short term but the chances of it making hair worse in the long run (compared to not using) is very very very low. Have a good discussion with a good physician.
Finasteride is FDA-approved to treat male pattern hair loss. It's safe and it is the most effective FDA-approved treatment for male pattern hair loss. It acts predominantly by increasing hair diameter and growth rate, although increased hair counts are also observed to a lesser degree. Studies have shown that daily treatment with 1 mg finasteride results in stabilization of pattern hair loss in about 50% of patients and regrowth in 48%. The first signs of efficacy are usually seen at 3 months, when men who complain of increased hair shedding during their hair-loss process begin to notice less shedding. One year of therapy is required to fully assess stabilization and/or regrowth. I recommend scheduling a consultation with a hair loss specialist.
Very few men when prescribed Finasteride will report increased hair shedding. Finasteride is only approved for hair loss in males in USA. Long term it works best in preventing crown hair loss and there is no evidence of making hair worse in using it long-term. Finasteride which is approved for male use only works better than minoxidil.
Starting on finasteride can initially cause some shedding, as with any new hair therapy, but tends to stabilize hair loss in the long term. Good luck!!
The best way to determine how much hair you actually lost is to get a HAIRCHECK instrument test which is the only accurate way to determine hair loss. Then when you go on the drug finasteride, you can remeasure your hair and find out if you are gaining or losing hair while you are on the drug so that this gives you a metric when determining value of the drug. Finasteride, may initially produce shedding but it will stop in the first couple of months and then it willshow its value

You just might have caused permanent damage to your hair follicles. You could consider visiting a hair transplant surgeon who could help you transplant some grafts over your bald spot.
When you start finasteride, shedding has been reported for up to two months. Unusual to ahve it start on the second month. You may ahve to wait it out in hope that it stops. Go back and see your doctor
